And they believed in G‑d, and in Moses His servant. (ibid. 14:31) I heard from my master, the Baal Shem Tov, that “belief” means the mystical attachment of the soul to the Holy One, blessed be He.2Applied to the verse from Exodus, it means that the children of Israel experienced a mystical attachment to G‑d, at the time of the splitting of the Red Sea.
