There is a tzaddik who is very famous in one land, whereas in the neighboring land he is unknown. Then again, in yet another land he is famous. This is the point of that which is written in the Zohar (III, 280a): A spring that comes forth from one place and rushes under the ground until it overflows and emerges at some other, distant location—even in the place where it moves under the ground, it waters the roots of the trees.
יֵשׁ צַדִּיק שֶׁהוּא מְפֻרְסָם גָּדוֹל בִּמְדִינָה אַחַת, וּבַמְּדִינָה הַסְּמוּכָה אֵינוֹ חָשׁוּב כְּלָל, וְשׁוּב בִּמְדִינָה אַחֶרֶת הוּא מְפֻרְסָם. הוּא עִנְיָן הַכָּתוּב בַּזֹּהַר (תצא רפ): מַעְיָן דְּנָפֵק מֵאֲתַר חַד, וְאָזְלִי מִתְּחוֹת לְאַרְעָא, עַד שֶׁנּוֹבֵעַ וְיוֹצֵא בְּרִחוּק בְּמָקוֹם אַחֵר, וְאַף בַּמָּקוֹם שֶׁהוֹלֵךְ תְּחוֹת אַרְעָא, הוּא מַשְׁקֶה שָׁרְשֵׁי אִילָנָא:
