[עַל־פִּי תּוֹרָה כ"ט - הַאי גַּבְרָא דְּאָזֵל בָּעֵי אִתְּתָא]
שְׁמַע קוֹלֵנוּ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ חוּס וְרַחֵם עָלֵינוּ וְקַבֵּל בְּרַחֲמִים וּבְרָצוֹן אֶת תְּפִלָּתֵנוּ.

To make amends for all one’s sins can be very difficult because each of the various prohibitions of the Torah involves so many details. However, in every area of life there is a Tikkun Klali, a “General” or “Complete” Remedy, which has the power to rectify all one’s sins in that area and provide a sound basis for directing future activities to the service of God. For example, when trying to make a living, it is easy to fall prey to avarice, envy, malpractice, theft, and so on. The General Remedy in this area is to give charity, and to have in mind that this is the aim of all one’s work activities.
The General Remedy for the faculty of speech is to speak the praises of the tzaddikim, such as by telling stories about their achievements. Besides the obvious sins involving speech (slander, hurting people’s feelings, etc.), it is an abuse of our faculty of speech to talk without thinking: only when we use our minds as we speak are our words accepted. This applies to our prayers as well. Praise of the tzaddikim is the General Remedy for speech because the tzaddik lives on the plane of mind, spirit and wisdom. By speaking positively about his achievements, we bring wisdom into our words. The words in which we clothe our thoughts are called “garments” of the soul. The teaching, “Your clothes should always be white” (Ecclesiastes 9:8), thus applies to the way we speak, as well as being an injunction to take care of our physical clothing.
The concept of the General Remedy applies first and foremost in the realm of moral purity, which is the foundation of the covenant between God and the Jewish people. Moral purity in thought, word and deed is therefore the basis for true closeness between the individual Jew and God. Abuse of the covenant — such as through forbidden sexual thoughts, and indeed, through any sin at all — not only alienates the Jew from God, but is depicted as causing a stain on the Shekhinah. (The image is that of a menstrual stain, which renders a woman forbidden to her husband until she purifies herself.)
A commitment to guarding the covenant through moral purity is thus an integral element in teshuvah and in the redemption of the Jewish people as a whole.
HaShem my God, hear my voice! Have mercy on me and accept my prayer with compassion and favor!

אָבִינוּ אָב הָרַחֲמָן, אַל תַּסְתֵּר פָּנֶיךָ מִמֶּנִּי וְאַל תַּעֲלֵם אָזְנֶיךָ מִשַּׁוְעָתִי. לֹא תְאַמֵּץ אֶת לְבָבְךָ מֵאָחִיךָ הָאֶבְיוֹן, וְלֹא תִסְתֹּם אָזְנְךָ מִצַּעֲקָתִי. הֲמוֹן מֵעֶיךָ וְרַחֲמֶיךָ יֵעוֹרְרוּ עָלַי, כִּי זֶה כַמָּה נִכְסוֹף נִכְסַפְתִּי לִרְאוֹת בְּתִפְאֶרֶת עֻזְּךָ, וְאָנוּ צוֹעֲקִים וּמִתְפַּלְּלִים וּמִתְחַנְּנִים אֵלֶיךָ זֶה כַּמָּה יָמִים וְשָׁנִים,

My Father, compassionate Father, “do not hide Your face from me.” Do not ignore my cry. “Do not harden your heart against your destitute brother.” Do not close Your ear to my shrieks. Arouse Your compassion for me, because I so long to see the splendor of Your might. For years and years I have been crying out, praying and pleading with You.

עֶרֶב וָבֹקֶר וְצָהֳרַיִם אָשִׂיחָה וְאֶהֱמֶה. וְאָנוּ מְחַלִּים פָּנֶיךָ תָּמִיד שֶׁתָּשִׁיב פָּנֶיךָ אֵלֵינוּ וּתְקָרְבֵנוּ בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ לַעֲבוֹדָתְךָ בֶּאֱמֶת, וַעֲדַיִן לֹא נוֹשַׁעְנוּ וְרָחוֹק מִמֶּנּוּ יְשׁוּעָה,

“Evening, morning and afternoon, I pour out my prayers and moan.” We are constantly begging You to turn to us in love and bring us close to Your service — but still we have not been answered, and salvation seems so far away!

כִּי אָרַךְ עָלֵינוּ הַגָּלוּת מְאֹד מְאֹד בְּגוּף וָנֶפֶשׁ, וּבְכָל יוֹם צָרוֹתֵינוּ מְרֻבֶּה מֵחֲבֵרוֹ.

The exile has gone on for so long, physically and spiritually, and each day our troubles are worse than the day before.

וּבֶאֱמֶת יָדַעְנוּ, כִּי לֹא מִקֹּצֶר יָדְךָ לֹא הוֹשַׁעְתָּ אוֹתָנוּ, וְלֹא מִכֹּבֶד אָזְנֶיךָ לֹא שָׁמַעְתָּ תְּפִלּוֹתֵינוּ, כִּי אִם עֲוֹנוֹתֵינוּ הִבְדִּילוּ בֵינֵינוּ וּבֵינְךָ, כִּי בַעֲוֹנוֹתַי הָרַבִּים נִתְרַחַקְתִּי מִן הַטּוֹב בְּתַכְלִית הָרִחוּק, עַד אֲשֶׁר כָּל דִּבְרֵי תְּחִנּוֹתַי וּבַקָּשׁוֹתַי הֵם רְחוֹקִים מִטּוֹב אֲמִתִּי,

I know very well that it isn’t because You don’t have the power that You haven’t saved me. And it isn’t because You can’t hear that You haven’t paid attention to my prayers. No, it is my sins that have separated me from You. I have sinned so much that I have become totally removed from good, to the point that all my prayers and requests are devoid of true goodness.

כִּי לֹא בְדַעַת אֲדַבֵּר, וּמֵחֲמַת זֶה אֵינִי זוֹכֶה לְדַבֵּר שׁוּם דִּבּוּר הַנִּשְׁמַע וְנִתְקַבֵּל, עַד אֲשֶׁר כָּל דִּבּוּרַי אֵינָם נִקְרָאִים בְּשֵׁם דִּבּוּר כְּלָל, מֵאֲחַר שֶׁאֵינָם נִמְשָׁכִין מֵהַדַּעַת דִּקְדֻשָּׁה וְאֵין בָּהֶם טוֹב.

I speak without using my mind, and because of that, I can’t say a single word that is listened to or accepted. My words aren’t even worthy of being called “speech,” since they are not drawn from a mind filled with holy awareness, and they are devoid of good.

וְעַתָּה מָה אֶעֱשֶׂה אָבִי שֶׁבַּשָּׁמַיִם, וּמֵאַיִן אֲבַקֵּשׁ עֵזֶר לִי, לִזְכּוֹת לְהַמְשִׁיךְ טוֹב לְתוֹךְ דִּבּוּרַי, לִזְכּוֹת עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה לְדִבּוּר הַנִּשְׁמַע וְנִתְקַבֵּל,

And now, what should I do, my Father in Heaven? Where can I seek help to put some goodness into my words, so I will be able to offer a prayer that will be listened to and accepted?

כִּי אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהַי וֵאלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתַי, שֶׁעַכְשָׁיו אֵין לִי שׁוּם סְמִיכָה בְּכָל מַה שֶּׁאֲנִי צָרִיךְ בְּגַשְׁמִיּוּת וּבְרוּחָנִיּוּת דָּבָר גָּדוֹל וְדָבָר קָטָן, כִּי אִם לְבַקֵּשׁ מִמְּךָ מַתְּנַת חִנָּם וְנִדְבַת חֶסֶד שֶׁתְּחָנֵּנִי בְּחֶסֶד חִנָּם,

For You know, HaShem my God and God of my fathers, that no matter what I need, materially or spiritually, large or small, I have nothing at all to rely on. I can only beg You to grant me what I need to serve You as an unearned gift of kindness.

וְתִתֶּן לִי כָּל מַה שֶּׁאֲנִי צָרִיךְ לַעֲבוֹדַת יְהֹוָה, וּתְקָרְבֵנִי אֵלֶיךָ בְּרַחֲמִים בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לִתְשׁוּבָה שְׁלֵמָה לְפָנֶיךָ בֶּאֱמֶת,

Favor me with Your unconditional lovingkindness and give me everything I need for my devotions. Compassionate God, draw me closer to You so that I will repent completely and sincerely.

כִּי אֵין שׁוּם דָּבָר קָטָן בָּעוֹלָם הַנּוֹגֵעַ לַעֲבוֹדַת יְהֹוָה שֶׁיִּהְיֶה נָקֵל אֶצְלִי לַעֲשׂוֹתוֹ, וְאֵין לִי שׁוּם עֵצָה וְתַחְבּוּלָה, כִּי הָעֵצָה בְּעַצְמָהּ קָשֶׁה לִי לְקַיֵּם כְּמוֹ גוּף הַדָּבָר שֶׁאֲנִי צָרִיךְ. וְעַל כֵּן אֵין לִי עַתָּה שׁוּם תִּקְוָה כִּי אִם עַל רַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים.

Not even one small detail of Divine service comes easily to me. I simply have no idea or strategy to achieve what I need to. For the advice itself is just as hard for me to fulfill as is the devotion that I need to do. Therefore, I have no hope at all, except to rely on Your vast compassion.

וְאִם חַס וְשָׁלוֹם אַתָּה עוֹשֶׂה עִמִּי אֲפִלּוּ חֵלֶק אֶחָד מֵאֲלָפִים וּרְבָבוֹת כְּפִי עֵרֶךְ מַעֲשַׂי הָרָעִים, וְתִרְצֶה לְחַפֵּשׂ בִּתְפִלָּתִי וּתְחִנָּתִי אִם יֵשׁ בָּהֶם אֵיזֶה טוֹב, כְּדֵי שֶׁיִּהְיֶה הַדִּבּוּר שֶׁלִּי נִשְׁמַע וְנִתְקַבֵּל, לֹא יָדַעְתִּי נַפְשִׁי מֵאַיִן יָבוֹא עֶזְרִי, כִּי אֲנִי יוֹדֵעַ בֶּאֱמֶת שֶׁכָּל דְּבָרַי הֵם רְחוֹקִים מִטּוֹב אֲמִתִּי בְּתַכְלִית הָרִחוּק:

Yet if You decide to treat me the way I really deserve for even a minute fraction of my wrongful deeds — if You wish to check my prayers and entreaties for some modicum of good before You accept them — I have no idea how I’ll ever be helped, because I know very well that all my words are far from containing true good.

רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל עוֹלָם, צַר לִי מְאֹד מַר לִי מְאֹד, אָמַרְתִּי וִיהִי מָה, אָרוּצָה דְבָרַי לְפָנֶיךָ, אָשִׂיחָה וְיִרְוַח לִי, אוּלַי יָחוֹס אוּלַי יְרַחֵם. אוּלַי יֵרֶא יְהֹוָה בְּעָנְיִי. וּמֵאֶרֶץ אֲדַבֵּר וּמֵעָפָר אִמְרָתִי אֲצַפְצֵף, אוּלַי יֵשׁ תִּקְוָה, אוּלַי יָחוֹס עַם עָנִי וְאֶבְיוֹן אוּלַי יְרַחֵם.

Master of the world, I’m in such pain! It’s all so bitter! I have decided that, no matter what, I’ll say what I have to say to You without holding back. I’ll pour out my heart in the hope of feeling some relief. Perhaps God will have pity. Perhaps He will have compassion. “Perhaps HaShem will see my wretched state.” Even if I’m in the earth, I’ll talk: from the very dust I’ll cry out. “Perhaps there is hope! Perhaps He will have pity on the destitute; perhaps He will have compassion.”

כִּי אַתָּה טוֹב וּמֵטִיב לַכֹּל לָרָעִים וְלַטּוֹבִים, וּבְוַדַּאי אַתָּה יָכוֹל לִמְצוֹא בִּדְבָרַי גַּם כֵּן אֵיזֶה נְקֻדּוֹת טוֹבוֹת, אַף־עַל־פִּי שֶׁהֵם בְּהֶעְלֵם וּבְהֶסְתֵּר גָּדוֹל וּבְתַכְלִית הַמִּעוּט וּבְהַעְלָמָה גְּדוֹלָה, עַד שֶׁאֵינָן רְאוּיִם דִּבּוּרַי לִהְיוֹתָם נִשְׁמָעִים וְנִתְקַבְּלִים עַל־יְדֵי הַסְתָּרַת מְעַט הַטּוֹב הַזֶּה שֶׁנֶּעֶלְמוּ בָהֶם.

For You, God, are good and do good for all, wicked and righteous alike. Surely You can find some good points in what I have to say, even though they may be so totally hidden that my words are not worthy of being heard and accepted because the little good they contain is so concealed.

אַף־עַל־פִּי־כֵן אַתָּה רַב חֶסֶד וּמַרְבֶּה לְהֵטִיב, וּלְפָנֶיךָ נִגְלוּ כָּל תַּעֲלוּמוֹת וַהֲמוֹן נִסְתָּרוֹת שֶׁמִּבְּרֵאשִׁית, וְאַתָּה יָכוֹל בְּחַסְדְּךָ הַגָּדוֹל לְגַלּוֹת גַּם מְעַט הַטּוֹב שֶׁיֵּשׁ בִּדְבָרַי,

Nevertheless, You are flowing with kindness and goodness. There is not a secret in the world, from the beginning of Creation, that is concealed from You. In Your great kindness, You have the power to uncover even the slightest modicum of goodness contained in my words.

כִּי אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ רִבּוֹנוֹ דְעַלְמָא כֹּלָּא, שֶׁאַף־עַל־פִּי שֶׁפָּגַמְתִּי נֶגְדְּךָ הַרְבֵּה, חָטָאתִי עָוִיתִי וּפָשַׁעְתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ מִנְּעוּרַי עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה וְהָרַע בְּעֵינֶיךָ עָשִׂיתִי, אַף־עַל־פִּי־כֵן כַּוָּנָתִי בִּדְבָרַי לְטוֹבָה,

For You know, Master of the entire world, that even though I’ve done so much wrong and sinned and transgressed against You from my youth until today, even so, the intent behind my words is for the good.

כִּי אֲנִי כוֹסֵף וּמִשְׁתּוֹקֵק וְחָפֵץ וּמִתְגַּעְגֵּעַ בֶּאֱמֶת לַעֲבוֹדָתְךָ בֶּאֱמֶת, שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ לָסוּר מֵרָע לְגַמְרֵי וְלַעֲשׂוֹת הַטּוֹב בְּעֵינֶיךָ תָמִיד.

I really do so want, yearn, desire and long to genuinely serve You. Compassionate God, let me turn away from evil completely and do what is good in Your eyes at all times.

וְאִם אָמְנָם מַעֲשַׂי אֵינָם נָאִים כְּלָל, עִם כָּל זֶה דִּבְרֵי בַקָּשׁוֹתַי וּתְחִנּוֹתַי הֵם בֶּאֱמֶת לַאֲמִתּוֹ,

Maybe my behavior is not at all pleasing. Even so, I’m completely sincere in what I’m asking.

וְאַתָּה לִמַּדְתָּנוּ עַל־יְדֵי צַדִּיקֶיךָ הָאֲמִתִּיִּים לְהִתְפַּלֵּל וּלְהִתְחַנֵּן לְפָנֶיךָ תָּמִיד עַל כָּל מַה שֶּׁאָנוּ צְרִיכִין לְהִתְקָרְבוּת לַעֲבוֹדַת יְהֹוָה בֶּאֱמֶת, כִּי אַף־עַל־פִּי שֶׁנָּתַתָּ לָנוּ בְּחִירָה לִבְחֹר בַּטּוֹב וְלִמְאֹס בָּרָע, אַף־עַל־פִּי־כֵן מוֹעִיל תְּפִלָּה וְתַחֲנוּנִים עַל זֶה בְעַצְמוֹ, שֶׁתַּטֶּה לְבָבֵנוּ אֵלֶיךָ בֶּאֱמֶת וְתִכּוֹף אֶת יִצְרֵנוּ לְהִשְׁתַּעְבֶּד לָךְ, וְתַעֲזֹר לָנוּ וְתַכְרִיחַ אוֹתָנוּ לַעֲזֹב דֶּרֶךְ רֶשַׁע וְלֶאֱחֹז בְּדֶרֶךְ הַטּוֹב וְהַיָּשָׁר בְּדֶרֶךְ הַחַיִּים. וּבֶאֱמֶת אֵין לִי שׁוּם תִּקְוָה כִּי אִם עַל זֶה, עַל תְּפִלָּה וְתַחֲנוּנִים וְשַׁוְעָה וּצְעָקָה וּזְעָקָה אֵלֶיךָ שֶׁתְּקָרְבֵנִי בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ לַעֲבוֹדָתְךָ בֶּאֱמֶת, וְתִכּוֹף אֶת יִצְרִי וְתַכְנִיעַ וּתְשַׁבֵּר אֶת תַּאֲוָתִי, וְתַעֲשֶׂה עִמִּי כַּחֲסָדֶיךָ בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לָסוּר מֵרָע לְגַמְרֵי, וְלַעֲשׂוֹת הַטּוֹב בְּעֵינֶיךָ תָמִיד מֵעַתָּה וְעַד עוֹלָם:

You have taught us through Your true tzaddikim that we should always pray to You for everything we need in order to serve You. For though You have given us free will to choose good and reject evil, even so, prayers and supplications help for this too. We can ask You to turn our hearts toward You, and subdue our inclinations so that we will serve You. You have the power to help and even force us to abandon the evil path and follow the path of goodness and righteousness, the path of life. The truth is that I have no hope at all except to pray, beg, shriek and cry out to You to draw me closer to Your service, bring my evil inclination under control, and subdue and break my appetites. Deal with me kindly so that I will turn away from evil completely and always do what is good in Your eyes from now on and forever.

רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל עוֹלָם, דַּעְתִּי קְצָרָה וְלִבִּי אָטוּם וְיָדַי כְבֵדוֹת לְפָרֵשׁ וּלְבָאֵר כָּל שִׂיחָתִי לְפָנֶיךָ. חוּס וַחֲמֹל עָלַי, חוּסָה עָלַי כְּרֹב רַחֲמֶיךָ, וְעָזְרֵנִי שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה תָמִיד לְשַׁבֵּחַ וּלְפָאֵר אֶת הַצַּדִּיקִים הָאֲמִתִּיִּים בְּכָל מִינֵי שֶׁבַח וָעֹז וּפְאֵר וְכָבוֹד וְתִפְאֶרֶת,

Speech and self-expression
Master of the world, my mind is limited and my heart is sealed. My hands are too heavy to stretch out before You and express my prayer. Have mercy on me. Have pity on me in accordance with Your compassion. Help me so that I always speak in praise of the true tzaddikim and give them every kind of honor and respect.

עַד שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה עַל־יְדֵי שֶׁבַח הַצַּדִּיקִים לְרוֹמֵם אֶת הַדַּעַת, עַד שֶׁיִּהְיֶה נִמְשָׁךְ עַל־יְדֵי הַדַּעַת הַקָּדוֹשׁ, טוֹב אֲמִתִּי לְתוֹךְ הַדִּבּוּר שֶׁלִּי. וְיִהְיוּ כָל דִּבּוּרַי דִּבּוּרִים טוֹבִים בֶּאֱמֶת, עַד שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה מֵעַתָּה שֶׁיִּהְיוּ כָּל דִּבּוּרַי דִּבּוּרִים הַנִּשְׁמָעִים וְנִתְקַבְּלִים בְּעֵינֶיךָ וּבְעֵינֵי כָל בָּאֵי עוֹלָם,

Then, through my praise of the tzaddikim, I will be able to elevate my mind, attain holy wisdom, and bring true goodness into the words that I speak. Let everything I say be truly good, so that from now on all of my words will be heard and acceptable in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who hear me.

וּזְכוּת וְכֹחַ הַצַּדִּיקִים אֲמִתִּיִּים שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לְשַׁבֵּחַ וּלְפָאֵר אוֹתָם, יָגֵנוּ עָלֵינוּ כְּנֶשֶׁר יָעִיר קִנּוֹ עַל גּוֹזָלָיו יְרַחֵף, עַד שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לְעוֹרֵר עַל יָדָם קְנֵה חָכְמָה קְנֵה בִינָה דִּקְדֻשָּׁה, וְנִזְכֶּה שֶׁיָּשׁוּבוּ לָנוּ מֹחֵינוּ וְדַעְתֵּנוּ שֶׁנִּגְזְלוּ מֵאִתָּנוּ עַל־יְדֵי מַעֲשֵׂינוּ הָרָעִים, וְאֶזְכֶּה לְהַשְׁלִים דַּעְתִּי בִּקְדֻשָּׁה גְּדוֹלָה, עַד שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לְקַבֵּל כָּל דִּבּוּרַי מֵהַדַּעַת הַקָּדוֹשׁ וּלְהַמְשִׁיךְ טוֹב אֲמִתִּי לְתוֹךְ דִּבּוּרַי,

May the merit and strength of the true tzaddikim whom I praise and honor protect me — “as an eagle stirs up its nest and hovers over its young” — until I succeed in arousing through them holy wisdom and understanding. May I recover the powers of holy intellect and awareness that I’ve been robbed of because of my wrongful behavior. Help me develop my mind with the utmost holiness, so that I will choose every word I say with great care and wisdom, and draw true goodness into my words.

עַד שֶׁיִּהְיוּ כָּל דִּבּוּרַי דִבּוּרִים הַנִּשְׁמָעִים וְנִתְקַבְּלִים תָּמִיד, וְלֹא יֵצֵא מִפִּי שׁוּם דִּבּוּר שֶׁאֵינוֹ נִשְׁמַע וְנִתְקַבֵּל,

Let everything I say be listened to and accepted at all times. Don’t let a single unacceptable word leave my mouth.

רַק תְּזַכֵּנִי בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים וְתִהְיֶה תָמִיד עִם פִּי בְּעֵת דִּבּוּרִי, וְתַמְשִׁיךְ תָּמִיד טוֹב אֲמִתִּי לְתוֹךְ כָּל הַדִּבּוּרִים שֶׁלִּי, עַד שֶׁכָּל דִּבּוּרַי יִהְיוּ דִבּוּרִים הַנִּשְׁמָעִים וְנִתְקַבְּלִים בְּעֵינֵי כֹל, הֵן כְּשֶׁאֲנִי צָרִיךְ לְפָרֵשׁ שִׂיחָתִי לְפָנֶיךָ וּלְהִתְפַּלֵּל וּלְהִתְחַנֵּן וּלְהַעְתִּיר וּלְהַפְצִיר אוֹתְךָ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהַי וֵאלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתַי עַל כָּל מַה שֶּׁחָסֵר לִי, אֶזְכֶּה תָמִיד לְדַבֵּר לְפָנֶיךָ דִּבּוּרִים טוֹבִים דִּבְרֵי חֵן וְתַחֲנוּנִים, דִּבּוּרִים הַנִּשְׁמָעִים וְנִתְקַבְּלִים אֶצְלְךָ, וְיִתְקַבְּלוּ וְיִכָּנְסוּ דְבָרַי בְּלִבְּךָ, בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁתְּמַלֵּא כָל מִשְׁאֲלוֹתַי בְּרַחֲמִים וּתְקָרְבֵנִי אֵלֶיךָ בֶּאֱמֶת,

Compassionate God, be with my mouth whenever I speak, and always draw true goodness into all my words, so that whatever I say will be listened to and accepted by everyone. Whenever I need to speak to You, or pray to You, or plead with, entreat and implore You, HaShem my God and God of my fathers, for anything that I’m lacking, may I always speak words of goodness and grace. Let my supplications be listened to and accepted by You. Let my words enter Your heart. Fulfill all my requests with love, and bring me truly close to You.

כִּי צְרָכַי הֵמָּה מְרֻבִּים מְאֹד מְאֹד בְּגַשְׁמִיּוּת וּבְרוּחָנִיּוּת בְּלִי שִׁעוּר וָעֵרֶךְ, וְאֵין לִי שׁוּם מִשְׁעָן וּמִבְטָח, כִּי אִם עַל רַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים וַחֲסָדֶיךָ הַגְּדוֹלִים.

For my needs are endless, both materially and spiritually, and I have nothing to rely on or trust in except Your vast compassion and tremendous kindness.

וְהֵן כְּשֶׁאֲנִי רוֹצֶה לְדַבֵּר לְעַצְמִי דִּבְרֵי כִבּוּשִׁין וּלְהוֹכִיחַ אֶת עַצְמִי, לְבַל אֶהְיֶה עוֹד אַכְזָר עַל גּוּפִי וְנַפְשִׁי וְרוּחִי וְנִשְׁמָתִי, וַאֲנִי רוֹצֶה לְעוֹרֵר רַחֲמִים עַל עַצְמִי, וְאֶזְכֶּה תָמִיד לְדַבֵּר לְעַצְמִי דִבּוּרִים הַנִּשְׁמָעִים וְנִתְקַבְּלִים בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁיֻּכְנְסוּ דְבָרַי בְּלִבִּי, וְאֶזְכֶּה לְעוֹרֵר אֶת עַצְמִי לָשׁוּב אֵלֶיךָ בֶּאֱמֶת, וְלַעֲזֹב מֵעַתָּה דַרְכִּי הָרַע וּפְעֻלּוֹתַי הַמְגֻנּוֹת וּמַחְשְׁבוֹתַי הַמְבֻלְבָּלוֹת מְאֹד מְאֹד.

So too, when I want to speak to myself and remind myself to stop being cruel to my body, my soul and my spirit, and when I want to have compassion on myself, let me always use words that will be listened to and accepted, words that will penetrate my heart. May I stir myself to genuinely return to You and relinquish my evil ways, disgusting activities and greatly confused thoughts.

וְאֶזְכֶּה מֵעַתָּה לְצַמְצֵם אֶת דַּעְתִּי וּלְקַשֵּׁר עַצְמִי בְּקֶשֶׁר אַמִּיץ וְחָזָק אֵלֶיךָ תָּמִיד, וְלֹא אַנִּיחַ אֶת דַּעְתִּי וּלְבָבִי לְהַתְחִיל לְהַטּוֹת לְשׁוּם דְּבַר תַּאֲוָה חַס וְשָׁלוֹם, וְלֹא לְשׁוּם בִּלְבּוּל שֶׁבָּעוֹלָם וְאֶזְכֶּה לָסוּר מֵרָע בֶּאֱמֶת, בְּמַחֲשָׁבָה וּבְדִבּוּר וּבְמַעֲשֶׂה, וְלִכְסֹף וּלְהִשְׁתּוֹקֵק אֵלֶיךָ תָּמִיד בֶּאֱמוּנָה שְׁלֵמָה, וּלְהַרְגִּיל עַצְמִי בַּעֲבוֹדָתְךָ בֶּאֱמֶת בְּכָל לֵב, בְּגוּף וָנֶפֶשׁ וּמָמוֹן, לִמְסֹר הַכֹּל אֵלֶיךָ וּלְהַפְקִיר הַכֹּל בִּשְׁבִיל רְצוֹנְךָ הַטּוֹב.

From now on help me control my thoughts and bind myself to You with a strong, powerful bond at all times. Let me stop toying with lustful thoughts and feelings, or anything else that might distract me from serving You. Let me turn away from evil in thought, word and deed, and long and yearn for You at all times with perfect faith. May I become accustomed to truly serving You with my whole heart, my body, my soul, and everything I possess. Let me surrender myself to You entirely and pay attention to nothing except carrying out Your will.

וְהֵן כְּשֶׁאֲנִי צָרִיךְ וּמֻכְרָח כְּפִי רְצוֹנְךָ הַטּוֹב, לְדַבֵּר דִּבּוּרִים עִם בְּנֵי אָדָם לְעוֹרְרָם לַעֲבוֹדָתֶךָ, אוֹ בִשְׁבִיל אֵיזֶה חֵפֶץ וְעִנְיָן שֶׁהוּא רְצוֹנֶךָ, תְּזַכֵּנִי בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ תָּמִיד וְתַמְשִׁיךְ טוֹב מֵאִתְּךָ לְכָל דְּבָרַי, בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁיִּהְיוּ דְבָרַי תָּמִיד דִּבּוּרִים הַנִּשְׁמָעִים וְנִתְקַבְּלִים בְּעֵינֵי כֹל,

So too, help me whenever I have to speak to other people, whether to encourage them to serve You or for some other purpose that You desire. Channel goodness into everything I say, so that my words will always be listened to and accepted by everyone.

וְלֹא אֲדַבֵּר דְּבָרִים בְּטֵלִים לְעוֹלָם, רַק כָּל דִּבּוּרַי יִהְיוּ דִּבּוּרִים טוֹבִים, דִּבּוּרִים שֶׁיָּבוֹא מֵהֶם תּוֹעֶלֶת גָּדוֹל לְשִׁמְךָ וְלַעֲבוֹדָתְךָ בֶּאֱמֶת, דִּבּוּרִים הַנִּשְׁמָעִים וְנִתְקַבְּלִים, שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לִפְעֹל עַל יָדָם דְּבָרִים שֶׁהֵם רְצוֹנְךָ הַטּוֹב בֶּאֱמֶת:

May I never engage in idle talk. Let me speak only words of goodness — words that will enhance Your Name and lead to Your service, words that will be listened to and accepted, words through which I will be able to bring about Your will.

וּבְכֵן תְּרַחֵם עָלַי אָבִי אָב הָרַחֲמָן, אָב הַחֶסֶד,

The covenant: Moral purity
Therefore, my Father — my compassionate Father, my loving Father — have mercy on me!

וְתוֹשִׁיעֵנִי וְתַעַזְרֵנִי מְהֵרָה וְתַחְמֹל עָלַי בְּחֶמְלָתְךָ הַגְּדוֹלָה וּבַחֲנִינוֹתֶיךָ הָאֲמִתִּיִּים,

Save me and help me quickly! In Your great mercy and genuine kindness, have pity on me!

וּתְזַכֵּנִי מֵעַתָּה לְתִּקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי שֶׁהוּא תִקּוּן הַבְּרִית. וְתִמְחֹל וְתִסְלַח לִי עַל כָּל עֲוֹנוֹתַי וַחֲטָאַי וּפְשָׁעַי שֶׁחָטָאתִי וְשֶׁעָוִיתִי וְשֶׁפָּשַׁעְתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ, וּבִפְרָט מַה שֶׁפָּגַמְתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ בִּפְגַם הַבְּרִית קֹדֶשׁ מִנְּעוּרַי עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה, בְּמַחֲשָׁבָה דִּבּוּר וּמַעֲשֶׂה, בִּרְאִיַּת הָעַיִן וּבִשְׁמִיעַת הָאֹזֶן וּבִשְׁאָר חוּשִׁים, בְּשׁוֹגֵג וּבְמֵזִיד בְּאֹנֶס וּבְרָצוֹן,

From now on grant me the General Remedy, which is the fulfillment of the covenant. Forgive me and pardon me for all my sins and offenses against You, and especially for my abuse of the holy covenant from my youth until today — whether in thought, word or deed, in what I’ve looked at with my eyes or listened to with my ears or done with my other senses, unwittingly or intentionally, under compulsion or willfully.

הֵן הַפְּגָמִים שֶׁפָּגַמְתִּי בְּהֶתֵּר, הֵן הַפְּגָמִים שֶׁל אִסּוּר, עַל הַכֹּל תִּמְחֹל וְתִסְלַח לִי אֱלוֹהַּ סְלִיחוֹת, חַנּוּן הַמַּרְבֶּה לִסְלֹחַ.

These include my excesses in the realm of the permitted and my transgressions in the realm of the forbidden. Forgive me and pardon me for everything, God of forgiveness, You Who are kind and generously forgiving.

וְתַעַזְרֵנִי וְתוֹשִׁיעֵנִי וְתַצִּילֵנִי מֵעַתָּה מִכָּל מִינֵי פְּגַם הַבְּרִית, וּתְקַדְּשֵׁנִי בִּקְדֻשָּׁתְךָ הָעֶלְיוֹנָה, עַד שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה מְהֵרָה חוּשָׁה לְתִקּוּן הַבְּרִית בִּשְׁלֵמוּת. עָזְרֵנִי וְהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי אָבִי שֶׁבַּשָּׁמַיִם, כִּי אֵינִי יוֹדֵעַ כְּלָל מַה לְדַבֵּר, כִּי אֵין שׁוּם לָשׁוֹן בָּעוֹלָם שֶׁאוּכַל לְפָרֵשׁ שִׂיחָתִי עַל יָדוֹ,

From now on help me and save me from any kind of abuse of the covenant. Sanctify me with Your supreme holiness so that I can quickly merit perfect fulfillment of the covenant. Help me and save me, my Father in Heaven! I have no idea what I should say. No words in the world can express my feelings.

רַק אֲנִי צוֹעֵק אֵלֶיךָ לְבַד בְּקוֹל מַר, זְעָקָה גְּדוֹלָה וּמָרָה, בַּאֲנָחָה וַאֲנָקָה, בְּשַׁוְעָה וּזְעָקָה וּצְעָקָה, בְּכָל מִינֵי קוֹלוֹת וּצְעָקוֹת וַאֲנָחוֹת שֶׁבָּעוֹלָם.

I can only cry out to You with a great and bitter cry. I can only sigh and wail, yell, scream and howl.

קוֹלִי אֶל יְהֹוָה וְאֶצְעָקָה, קוֹלִי אֶל יְהֹוָה וְהַאֲזִין אֵלָי. קוֹלִי אֶל יְהֹוָה אֶזְעָק קוֹלִי אֶל יְהֹוָה אֶתְחַנָּן. אֵלֶיךָ יְהֹוָה אֶקְרָא וְאֶל יְהֹוָה אֶתְחַנָּן. מַה בֶּצַע בְּדָמִי בְּרִדְתִּי אֶל שַׁחַת הֲיוֹדְךָ עָפָר הֲיַגִּיד אֲמִתֶּךָ.

“I will raise my voice to HaShem and cry, I will raise my voice to HaShem until He hears me.” “I raise my voice to HaShem and scream. I raise my voice to HaShem and plead.” “To You, HaShem, I cry. I plead with You, HaShem: What profit is there in my blood if I go down to the pit? Will dust acknowledge You or declare Your truth?”

חוּס וַחֲמֹל עָלַי חוּס וְרַחֵם עָלַי, עָזְרֵנִי וְהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי וְזַכֵּנִי לְתִקּוּן הַבְּרִית בֶּאֱמֶת, כִּי עֵינַי צוֹפִיּוֹת לְרַחֲמֶיךָ וַחֲסָדֶיךָ הָאֲמִתִּיִּים לְחֶסֶד חִנָּם, וְיָדַי פְרוּשׂוֹת לַחֲנִינוּתֶיךָ.

Have pity on me! Have mercy on me! Help me, save me, and let me genuinely keep Your covenant. For my eyes are yearning to witness Your unbounded compassion and generosity. My hands are stretched out to appeal to You for kindness.

וְכָל עוֹד נַפְשִׁי בִי, אֶזְעַק וַאֲשַׁוֵּעַ אֵלֶיךָ וְאֵשֵׁב וַאֲיַחֵל וַאֲצַפֶּה לְרַחֲמֶיךָ, אִם כְּבָנִים אִם כַּעֲבָדִים,

As long as my soul is within me I will cry out to You, and wait and yearn for You to show me compassion, whether as Your child or Your servant.

אִם כְּבָנִים רַחֵם עָלַי כְּרַחֵם אָב עַל בָּנִים, וְאִם כַּעֲבָדִים עֵינַי לְךָ תְּלוּיוֹת, עַד שֶׁתְּחָנֵּנִי וְתוֹצִיאֵנִי מִמַּסְגֵּר וּתְחַלְּצֵנִי מִפְּגַם הַבְּרִית וּתְמַלֵּט נַפְשִׁי מִנִּי שָׁחַת. וְתִשְׁמְרֵנִי וְתַצִּילֵנִי מֵעַתָּה מִכָּל מִינֵי פְּגַם הַבְּרִית שֶׁבָּעוֹלָם, בַּיָּדַיִם וּבָרַגְלַיִם וּבָעֵינַיִם וּבִשְׁאָר חוּשִׁים, בְּמַחֲשָׁבָה דִּבּוּר וּמַעֲשֶׂה, בְּכֻלָּם אֶזְכֶּה לִהְיוֹת קָדוֹשׁ וְטָהוֹר מִכָּל מִינֵי פְּגַם הַבְּרִית שֶׁבָּעוֹלָם.

If I am Your child, have compassion on me as a father has compassion on his children. And if I am Your servant, my eyes are turned toward You until You show me mercy and release me from my prison, and rescue me from violating Your covenant. Save my soul from destruction. Protect me and rescue me from now on from violating the covenant in any way — whether with my hands, my feet, my eyes or the rest of my senses, whether in thought, word or deed. In all of them, let me be holy, pure and clean of any infringement of the covenant.

וּתְזַכֵּנִי מְהֵרָה לְתִקּוּן הַבְּרִית בֶּאֱמֶת, בְּתַכְלִית הַשְּׁלֵמוּת, בְּמַדְרֵגַת צַדִּיקִים אֲמִתִּיִּים, עַד שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה עַל־יְדֵי תִקּוּן הַבְּרִית לְתַקֵּן כָּל הַחֲטָאִים וְהָעֲוֹנוֹת וְהַפְּשָׁעִים שֶׁחָטָאתִי וְשֶׁעָוִיתִי וְשֶׁפָּשַׁעְתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ. וְכָל מִינֵי פְּגָמִים שֶׁפָּגַמְתִּי בִּשְׁסָ"ה לָאוִין שֶׁבַּתּוֹרָה שֶׁהֵם כְּנֶגֶד שְׁסָ"ה גִידִין, כֻּלָּם אֶזְכֶּה לְתַקֵּן עַל־יְדֵי תִקּוּן הַבְּרִית שֶׁהוּא כְּלָלִיּוּת הַגִּידִין שֶׁהוּא תִקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי, וְאֶזְכֶּה לְתַקֵּן וּלְזַכֵּךְ כָּל הַדָּמִים שֶׁל כָּל הַשְׁסָ"ה גִידַי. וְתַעֲבִיר וּתְבַטֵּל וְתָסִיר מִכָּל הַדָּמִים שֶׁלִּי כָּל מִינֵי פְּגָמִים וַעֲכִירוּת וְלִכְלוּכִים, שֶׁהִטַּלְתִּי בָהֶם עַל־יְדֵי הַפְּגָמִים שֶׁפָּגַמְתִּי בִּשְׁסָ"ה לָאוִין שֶׁבַּתּוֹרָה.

Help me quickly rectify the covenant to the ultimate degree of perfection, on the level of the true tzaddikim. This way I’ll be able to rectify every single sin I’ve ever committed against You. The 365 prohibitions of the Torah correspond to the 365 arteries and veins in the human body. Let me rectify all of them by keeping the covenant, which includes all the arteries and veins in the body and is the General Remedy. Help me purify all the blood in my 365 arteries and veins. Totally cleanse my blood of all the impurities I infused into it by violating the 365 prohibitions of the Torah.

וּבְרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים תָּסִיר וּתְבַטֵּל כָּל מִינֵי כְּתָמִים, שֶׁגָּרַמְתִּי לְהַשְּׁכִינָה כִּבְיָכוֹל, עַל־יְדֵי תִגְבֹּרֶת הַדָּמִים הָרָעִים שֶׁהִתְגַבְּרוּ עַל־יְדֵי עֲוֹנוֹתַי הַמְּרֻבִּים, עַד אֲשֶׁר גָּרַמְתִּי לְהַשְּׁכִינָה כִּבְיָכוֹל, בְּחִינַת דַּם נִדּוּת הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד, עַד אֲשֶׁר בַּעֲוֹנוֹתַי יָרְדָה הַשְּׁכִינָה בְּגָלוּת גָּדוֹל מְאֹד, וְגָרַמְתִּי בַּעֲוֹנוֹתַי הָרַבִּים אַפְרָשׁוּתָא בֵּין קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא וּשְׁכִינְתֵּיהּ. הִיא יָשְׁבָה בַגּוֹיִם לֹא מָצְאָה מָנוֹחַ, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב, חֵטְא חָטְאָה יְרוּשָׁלַיִם עַל כֵּן לְנִדָּה הָיָתָה: רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל עוֹלָם, מָה אוֹמַר מָה אֲדַבֵּר, הָאֱלֹהִים מָצָא אֶת עֲוֹנִי. נֶאֱלַמְתִּי דוּמִיָּה הֶחֱשֵׁיתִי מִטּוֹב וּכְאֵבִי נֶעְכָּר. חוּס וְרַחֵם עָלַי וַעֲשֵׂה לְמַעַנְךָ, וּלְמַעַן הַצַּדִּיקִים אֲמִתִּיִּים, וּלְמַעַן שִׁמְךָ הַגָּדוֹל, וּלְמַעַן צַעֲקַת וְשַׁאֲגַת קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא וּשְׁכִינְתֵּיהּ, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב, יְהֹוָה מִמָּרוֹם יִשְׁאָג וּמִמְּעוֹן קָדְשׁוֹ יִתֵּן קוֹלוֹ שָׁאֹג יִשְׁאַג עַל נָוֵהוּ, עַל נָוֶה דִילֵיהּ. אָנֹכִי חָטָאתִי וְהוּא אָסוּר בָּאזִקִּים. וְהִיא גַם הִיא בְמַר תִּזְעַק בְּגָלוּתָהּ הַגָּדוֹל אֲשֶׁר נִפְרְדָה מִדּוֹדָהּ, וְהִיא צוֹעֶקֶת בְּקוֹל מַר נְהִי בְּכִי תַמְרוּרִים, קַלַּנִי מֵרֹאשִׁי קַלַּנִי מִזְּרוֹעִי,

In Your vast compassion, remove all the stains I have caused to the Shekhinah, as it were, because of the floods of bad blood that I have strengthened by my many sins. I have caused the Shekhinah so much “blood of impurity.” As a result, the Shekhinah has descended into a deep exile. My sins have also caused the Shekhinah to become separated from the Holy One, blessed is He. “She dwells among the nations, She finds no rest.” As it is written, “Jerusalem has surely transgressed; therefore, she has become like a menstruating woman.” Master of the world, what can I say? How can I speak? God has found out my sin. “I am struck dumb. I keep silent, I don’t even say good things, and my pain is all the more acute.” Have pity and mercy on me for Your sake, for the sake of the true tzaddikim, for the sake of Your great Name, and for the sake of the cry and roar of the Holy One, blessed is He, and the Shekhinah, as it is written, “HaShem roars from on high, and from His holy Sanctuary He lets forth His cry. He roars and roars over His dwelling place” — over His precious Shekhinah. I am the one who sinned, and He is bound in chains. And She too cries out bitterly in Her terrible exile, which has kept Her apart from Her Beloved. She cries out in a bitter voice, “Woe! Bitter tears ... My head is heavy! My arm is heavy!”

אוֹי לָנוּ כִּי שֻׁדָּדְנוּ, אוֹי לָנוּ עַל נַפְשֵׁנוּ, אוֹי נָא לָנוּ כִּי חָטָאנוּ, אוֹי עַל יָמֵינוּ וּשְׁנוֹתֵינוּ, אוֹי אוֹי לָנוּ, כִּי אֲנַחְנוּ גָרַמְנוּ כָּל זֶה עַל־יְדֵי חֲטָאֵינוּ וַעֲוֹנוֹתֵינוּ וּפְשָׁעֵינוּ הַמְּרֻבִּים, וְהִיא מְגֹעֶלֶת בְּחוֹבִין דִּידָן, וּלְבוּשֶׁיהָ וּבְגָדֶיהָ מְלֻכְלָכִים בִּכְתָמִים מֵעֲוֹנוֹתֵינוּ. מַה נֹּאמַר וּמַה נְּדַבֵּר,

“Woe to us! We have been ruined.” Woe for our poor souls. “Woe to us for we have sinned.” All our days and years have gone to waste. Woe! Woe to us! We caused all this through our sins, offenses and transgressions. The Shekhinah has become sullied by our sins. Her garments and clothing are filthy with the stains of our sins. What can we say? How can we speak?

מָלֵא רַחֲמִים, טְהוֹר עֵינַיִם, טוֹב וּמֵטִיב לַכֹּל, חַנּוּן וְרַחוּם, עֲשֵׂה מַה שֶׁתַּעֲשֶׂה, בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁתְּזַכֵּנוּ לְתַקֵּן כָּל זֶה חִישׁ קַל מְהֵרָה. וְזַכֵּנִי לְתִקּוּן הַבְּרִית בִּשְׁלֵמוּת, בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה לְתַקֵּן כָּל הַפְּגָמִים שֶׁבָּעוֹלָם, וְתִמְחֹל וְתִסְלַח וּתְכַפֵּר לִי עַל כָּל חֲטָאַי וַעֲוֹנוֹתַי וּפְשָׁעַי בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים.

God, You are filled with compassion. Your vision is pure. You are good and do good to all. Kind, merciful God, do what You know is best to bring me to rectify all this as quickly as possible. Help me keep the covenant perfectly, so that I will be able to make amends for all the damage I’ve caused. In Your vast compassion, forgive me and pardon me for all my sins.

וּתְעוֹרֵר בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הַדַּעַת דִּקְדֻשָּׁה, וְתִמְשׁוֹךְ מִמֶּנּוּ לַבְנוּנִית לְבָרֵר וּלְלַבֵּן וּלְזַכֵּךְ כָּל הַדָּמִים שֶׁל כָּל הַשְׁסָ"ה גִידִין שֶׁלִּי, עַד שֶׁיִּתְתַּקְנוּ כָל הַפְּגָמִים וְהַקִּלְקוּלִים שֶׁבָּהֶם.

Awaken holy awareness within me and draw out from it purity of mind, which will refine and cleanse all the blood in my 365 arteries and veins, until all the damage they have suffered is put right.

וּתְזַכֵּנִי לִזְרֹק תִּקּוּנִים לְכָל הַמְּקוֹמוֹת הַצָּרִים וְהַדַּקִּים שֶׁאִי אֶפְשָׁר שֶׁיַּגִּיעַ לְשָׁם שׁוּם תִּקּוּן, וְעַל־יְדֵי תִקּוּן הַבְּרִית שֶׁתְּזַכֵּנִי בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ, אֶזְכֶּה לִזְרֹק תִּקּוּנִים גַּם לְשָׁם, עַד שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לְתַקֵּן כָּל מִינֵי פְּגָמִים בִּשְׁלֵמוּת גָּדוֹל, בְּתַכְלִית הַתִּקּוּן כִּרְצוֹנְךָ הַטּוֹב בֶּאֱמֶת, וּתְזַכֵּנִי מֵעַתָּה בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים, וְתַעַזְרֵנִי וְתוֹשִׁיעֵנִי וְתִהְיֶה עִמִּי תָמִיד, וְתִשְׁמֹר אֶת לְבוּשַׁי וּבְגָדַי שֶׁלֹּא יָבוֹא עֲלֵיהֶם שׁוּם לִכְלוּךְ וְשׁוּם כֶּתֶם וְשׁוּם רְבָב, כִּי אַתָּה לְבַד יָדַעְתָּ גֹּדֶל הַפְּגַָם הַנּוֹגֵעַ בְּהַשְּׁכִינָה בְּעַצְמָהּ, וּבְעוֹלָמוֹת עֶלְיוֹנִים עַל־יְדֵי פְּגַם הַבְּגָדִים כְּשֶׁאֵין שׁוֹמְרִים אוֹתָם מִכְּתָמִים וְלִכְלוּכִים, וְהַבְּגָדִים בְּעַצְמָן דָּנִין אֶת הָאָדָם עַל זֶה כְּשֶׁאֵין שׁוֹמְרִים אוֹתָם מִכְּתָמִים. וּבַעֲוֹנוֹתַי הָרַבִּים קָשֶׁה וְכָבֵד עָלַי מְאֹד גַּם דָּבָר הַזֶּה לִשְׁמֹר אֶת הַבְּגָדִים מִכְּתָמִים, כִּי אִי אֶפְשָׁר שֶׁלֹּא אַסִּיחַ דַּעְתִּי מֵהֶם, וּבִפְרָט בִּשְׁעַת עֵסֶק הַתּוֹרָה וְהַתְּפִלָּה וּשְׁאָר עֲסָקִים, וְאָז בָּאִים חַס וְשָׁלוֹם עֲלֵיהֶם כְּתָמִים בְּהֶסֵּחַ הַדַּעַת.

Clean clothes
Let me inject rectifications into all the narrow and tight places that are impossible for any rectifications to reach. Compassionately help me keep the covenant, and thereby introduce rectifications there too. Let me correct every kind of blemish completely and at the ultimate level, in accordance with Your good will. In Your vast compassion, help me, save me and be with me always. From now on protect my garments and clothing from ever being sullied by any stain or discoloration. For You alone know the great blemish caused to the Shekhinah Herself in the upper worlds when a person fails to guard his clothes from stains and dirt. His own clothes judge him for failing to protect them from stains. But because of my many sins I find it very difficult and onerous to guard my clothes against stains. I find it impossible to keep my mind on them at all times, especially when I am studying Torah or praying or going about my various other activities. Then my clothes get dirty without my noticing.

וְכָל זֶה גָרַמְתִּי עַל־יְדֵי עֲוֹנוֹתַי הַמְּרֻבִּים וּמַחְשְׁבוֹתַי הַמְבֻלְבָּלוֹת מְאֹד, אֲשֶׁר עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה אֵינִי זוֹכֶה לִשְׁמֹר אֶת הַבְּגָדִים וּלְהַחֲזִיקָן בִּנְקִיּוּת וּלְהַצִּילָן מִכְּתָמִים וְלִכְלוּכִים:

My many sins and my jumbled thinking are the cause of all this. As a result, I’m not able to protect my clothes properly and keep them clean and free of stains and dirt.

הֵן עַל כָּל אֵלֶּה בָּאתִי לְפָרֵשׁ שִׂיחָתִי לְפָנֶיךָ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהַי וֵאלֹהֵי אֲבוֹתַי, מָלֵא רַחֲמִים, גּוֹמֵל לְחַיָּבִים טוֹבוֹת,

I have come to pray to You about all this, HaShem my God and God of my fathers. You Who are filled with compassion, bestow goodness on the guilty.

נוֹרָאוֹת בְּצֶדֶק תַּעֲנֵנוּ אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׁעֵנוּ מִבְטָח כָּל קַצְוֵי אֶרֶץ וְיָם רְחוֹקִים, נוֹרָאוֹת הַפְלֵא לְמַעַן שְׁמֶךָ. וְעָזְרֵנִי וְהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה לְתַקֵּן בְּחַיַּי כָּל זֶה חִישׁ קַל מְהֵרָה,

“With awesome miracles You answer us in righteousness, God of our salvation. You are the assurance of all the ends of the earth and the distant seas.” Do wonders for Your Name’s sake, and help me remedy all this in my lifetime, quickly, swiftly and speedily.

שֶׁאֶזְכֶּה מֵעַתָּה לְתַקֵּן תִּקּוּן הַבְּרִית בִּשְׁלֵמוּת. וְאֶזְכֶּה לְהָרִים וּלְעוֹרֵר אֶת הַדַּעַת דִּקְדֻשָּׁה וּלְהַמְשִׁיךְ לַבְנוּנִית דִּקְדֻשָּׁה מֵהַדַּעַת הַקָּדוֹשׁ, לְתַקֵּן פְּגָם כָּל הַדָּמִים שֶׁל כָּל הַשְׁסָ"ה גִידִין, שֶׁהֵם כְּנֶגֶד שְׁסָ"ה לָאוִין שֶׁבַּתּוֹרָה,

From now on let me guard the covenant perfectly. Help me elevate and arouse my mind in holiness, and draw purity of mind from holy awareness. This will allow me to rectify the damage to the blood in my 365 arteries and veins, which correspond to the 365 prohibitions of the Torah.

וּתְזַכֵּנִי לְתַקֵּן פְּגָם כָּל הַכְּתָמִים שֶׁל הַבְּגָדִים שֶׁלֹּא שָׁמַרְתִּי אוֹתָם עַד הֵנָּה, וְתִמְחֹל וְתִסְלַח לִי עַל כָּל הַפְּגָמִים הָאֵלֶּה. וְתַעַזְרֵנִי מֵעַתָּה וְתִשְׁמְרֵנִי וְתַצִּילֵנִי מִכָּל חֵטְא וְעָוֹן וּמִכְשׁוֹל, וְתַעַזְרֵנִי מֵעַתָּה לִשְׁמֹר אֶת הַבְּגָדִים וְהַלְּבוּשִׁים שֶׁלִּי לְכַבְּדָן וּלְהַחֲזִיקָן בִּנְקִיּוּת, וּתְזַכֵּנִי שֶׁלֹּא יִמָּצֵא עַל כָּל בְּגָדַי וּלְבוּשַׁי שׁוּם כֶּתֶם וְשׁוּם לִכְלוּךְ וּרְבָב כְּלָל. וְתָגֵן בַּעֲדִי וְתִשְׁמְרֵנִי אוֹתִי וְאֶת בְּגָדַי תָּמִיד, וְיִהְיוּ גוּפִי וְנַפְשִׁי וּבְגָדַי וּלְבוּשַׁי כֻלָּם נְקִיִּים וּטְהוֹרִים וּקְדוֹשִׁים תָּמִיד מֵעַתָּה וְעַד עוֹלָם.

Help me make amends for all the stains on my clothing caused by my past neglect. Forgive me and pardon me for all these blemishes, and from now on help me, protect me and rescue me from stumbling or sinning in any way. Help me take good care of my clothes and garments in the future, treating them with respect and keeping them clean. Don’t let any of my clothes or garments ever have any stains or dirt or discoloration on them at all. Protect both me and my clothes at all times. Let my body, my soul, and my clothes and garments be clean, pure and holy at all times, from now on and forever.

וְתַמְשִׁיךְ בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ מַיִם חַיִּים מִמְּקוֹר הַחַיִּים, וְיִהְיֶה נִמְשָׁךְ בְּאֵר מַיִם חַיִּים וְנוֹזְלִים מִן לְבָנוֹן מִן לִבּוּנָא דְמוֹחָא קַדִּישָׁא, וְשָׁם תְּטַהֵר אֶת הַשְּׁכִינָה מִנִּדָּתָהּ, וְתַעֲלֶה אוֹתָהּ מִגָּלוּתָהּ וְתָשִׁיב אֶל דּוֹדָהּ בְּאַהֲבָה וְאַחְוָה וְרֵיעוּת.

Compassionate God, send living waters from the source of life, and may a “wellspring of living waters flowing from Levanon” — from the whiteness of the holy brain — be drawn down so as to purify the Shekhinah from Her menstrual uncleanness. Lift Her up from Her exile, and restore Her to Her Beloved in love, harmony and companionship.

וּבְרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים תַּמְשִׁיךְ וְתִזְרֹק עָלֵינוּ מַיִם טְהוֹרִים הָאֵלֶּה וּתְטַהֵר אוֹתָנוּ וְאֶת בְּגָדֵינוּ מִכֹּל טֻמְאוֹתֵינוּ, וּתְקַיֵּם בָּנוּ מִקְרָא שֶׁכָּתוּב, וְזָרַקְתִּי עֲלֵיכֶם מַיִם טְהוֹרִים וּטְהַרְתֶּם מִכֹּל טֻמְאוֹתֵיכֶם וּמִכָּל גִּלּוּלֵיכֶם אֲטַהֵר אֶתְכֶם.

In Your great compassion, sprinkle these pure waters upon us and cleanse us and our clothing of all our impurities. Fulfill in us the verse, “I will sprinkle upon you pure waters and you will be purified of all your impurities; I will purify you of all your aberrations.”

וְתַלְבִּין חֲטָאֵינוּ כַּשֶּׁלֶג וְכַצֶּמֶר כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב, לְכוּ נָא וְנִוָּכְחָה יֹאמַר יְהֹוָה אִם יִהְיוּ חֲטָאֵיכֶם כַּשָּׁנִים כַּשֶּׁלֶג יַלְבִּינוּ אִם יַאְדִּימוּ כַתּוֹלָע כַּצֶּמֶר יִהְיוּ. וְנִזְכֶּה לְקַיֵּם מִקְרָא שֶׁכָּתוּב, בְּכָל עֵת יִהְיוּ בְגָדֶיךָ לְבָנִים וְשֶׁמֶן עַל רֹאשְׁךָ אַל יֶחְסָר:

Whiten our sins like snow and like wool, as it is written, “Go, please, and let us reason together, says HaShem. If your sins are as crimson, they will become white as snow, and if they are as red as scarlet, they will become like wool.” May we fulfill the verse, “At all times let your garments be white, and let oil never be lacking from upon your head.”

וּבְכֵן תְּרַחֵם עָלַי בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים, וְתִהְיֶה עִמִּי תָמִיד וְתוֹרֵנִי וּתְלַמְּדֵנִי בְּכָל עֵת, אֵיךְ לְהִתְנַהֵג בְּעִנְיָן דִּבּוּרַי עִם בְּנֵי אָדָם,

Keeping secrets
Compassionate God, be with me at all times. Guide me and teach me how to conduct myself when speaking with other people.

שֶׁלֹּא יֵצֵא מִפִּי דִּבּוּר שֶׁלֹּא כִּרְצוֹנְךָ, וְלֹא אֲגַלֶּה שׁוּם סוֹד שֶׁאֵין צְרִיכִין לְגַלּוֹת, וְתִשְׁמְרֵנִי תָמִיד שֶׁלֹּא אֶהְיֶה חַס וְשָׁלוֹם בִּכְלָל הוֹלֵךְ רָכִיל מְגַלֶּה סוֹד.

Do not let a word leave my mouth that is not in accordance with Your will. Don’t let me ever reveal a secret unnecessarily. Protect me and save me always so that I should never be someone who “goes about as a talebearer, revealing secrets.”

כִּי אֵין אִתָּנוּ יוֹדֵעַ עַד מָה, אֵיזֶה דִבְרֵי תוֹרָה צְרִיכִין לְדַבֵּר בָּהֶם וּלְגַלּוֹתָם, וְאֵיזֶה דִבְרֵי תוֹרָה שֶׁאָסוּר לְאוֹמְרָם וּלְגַלּוֹתָם, אֲשֶׁר עֲלֵיהֶם נֶאֱמַר, הוֹלֵךְ רָכִיל מְגַלֶּה סּוֹד.

For it is not at all clear which Torah teachings one may discuss publicly and which are forbidden to reveal as they are the secrets referred to in the verse.

עָזְרֵנִי תָמִיד בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ שֶׁלֹּא אֶעֱבֹר עַל לֹא תֵלֵךְ רָכִיל לְעוֹלָם, הֵן בְּדִבְרֵי תוֹרָה, הֵן בְּדִבְרֵי חוֹל בִּדְבָרִים שֶׁבֵּין אָדָם לַחֲבֵרוֹ, חוּס וְחָנֵּנִי וֶהְיֵה עִם פִּי בְּעֵת הַטִּיפִי, וְלֹא אוֹמַר דָּבָר שֶׁלֹּא כִּרְצוֹנְךָ מֵעַתָּה וְעַד עוֹלָם:

Compassionate God, help me never transgress the prohibition against going about as a talebearer — not when I speak words of Torah and not when I discuss mundane matters with other people. Have pity on me and be kind to me; be with my mouth when I speak. May I never say anything that goes against Your will, from now on and forever.

וְרַחֵם עָלַי וְהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי וְתֵן לִי פַּרְנָסָתִי מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם קֹדֶם שֶׁאֶצְטָרֵךְ לָהּ. וְתִתֶּן לִי וּלְבֵיתִי לֶחֶם לֶאֱכֹל וּבֶגֶד לִלְבֹּשׁ, לֶאֱכֹל לְשָׂבְעָה וְלִמְכַסֶּה עָתִיק. וְתַזְמִין לִי פַּרְנָסָתִי בְּלִי שׁוּם טִרְחָא וִיגִיעָה כְּלָל, בְּכָבוֹד וְלֹא בְּבִזּוּי, בְּהֶתֵּר וְלֹא בְּאִסּוּר, בְּנַחַת וְלֹא בְּצַעַר, מִתַּחַת יָדְךָ הָרְחָבָה וְהַמְּלֵאָה, וְאַל תַּצְרִיכֵנִי לֹא לִידֵי מַתְּנַת בָּשָׂר וָדָם וְלֹא לִידֵי הַלְוָאָתָם.

Livelihood
Have mercy on me and save me. Grant me my livelihood from Heaven before I need it. Give me and my household “bread to eat and clothes to wear,” “to eat and be satisfied, and to be dressed in the choicest garments.” Send me my livelihood without effort or exertion at all, honorably and without degradation, by permitted and not prohibited means, easily and without pain, from Your full and generous hand. Don’t let me be dependent on gifts or loans from other people.

וּכְשֵׁם שֶׁנָּתַתָּ מָזוֹן וּפַרְנָסָה לְעַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּמִּדְבָּר אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה, וְהוֹרַדְתָּ לָהֶם אֶת הַמָּן מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם, וְשִׂמְלָתָם לֹא בָלְתָה מֵעֲלֵיהֶם, כֵּן תְּרַחֵם עָלֵינוּ וְתִפְתַּח לָנוּ אֶת אוֹצָרְךָ הַטּוֹב מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם, וְתַזְמִין לָנוּ פַּרְנָסוֹתֵינוּ בְנָקֵל בְּלִי שׁוּם טֹרַח, בְּרֶוַח גָּדוֹל.

For forty years You gave food and livelihood to Your nation, the Jewish people, in the desert. You sent them manna from Heaven, and their clothes did not wear out. In the same way, have compassion on us now. Open up for us Your treasury of goodness in Heaven. Send us everything we need, easily and in great abundance, without our having to make any effort at all.

וְתַצִּיל אוֹתָנוּ תָמִיד מִכָּל מִינֵי דַאֲגוֹת פַּרְנָסָה, וְתַשְׁפִּיעַ לָנוּ שֵׂכֶל וָדַעַת מֵאִתְּךָ לִבְטֹחַ בְּךָ תָמִיד,

Keep me from worrying about my livelihood. Inspire me with the wisdom to trust in You at all times.

וְאַתָּה תְכַלְכְּלֵנִי מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם אוֹתִי וְאֶת בֵּיתִי וְאֶת זַרְעִי וְאֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁר לִי. וְתַשְׁפִּיעַ לִי כָל מַחְסוֹרַי קֹדֶם שֶׁאֶצְטָרֵךְ לָהֶם, בְּאֹפֶן שֶׁאוּכַל לַעֲסֹק בְּתוֹרָתְךָ וַעֲבוֹדָתְךָ תָמִיד בֶּאֱמֶת בְּכָל לֵב וָנֶפֶשׁ, וְלֹא יָבוֹא עָלַי שׁוּם בִּלְבּוּל בָּעוֹלָם מִטִּרְדַּת הַפַּרְנָסָה כְּלָל,

And You, in turn, provide me with what I need from Heaven — for myself, my household, my descendants and all that is mine. Provide me with everything I require before I need it, so that I will always be able to immerse myself in Torah and prayer with my whole heart and soul. Don’t let me be distracted in any way through worries about livelihood.

כִּי אֲנִי מַשְׁלִיךְ יְהָבִי עָלֶיךָ לְבַד וְאַתָּה תְכַלְכְּלֵנִי, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב, הַשְׁלֵךְ עַל יְהֹוָה יְהָבְךָ וְהוּא יְכַלְכְּלֶךָ:

For I cast my burden upon You alone, and You will provide me with my needs, as it is written, “Cast your burden upon HaShem and He will sustain you.”

וְעָזְרֵנוּ בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים, שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לַעֲשׂוֹת מַשָּׂא וּמַתָּן בֶּאֱמוּנָה, וְתַצִּילֵנוּ תָמִיד מִכָּל מִינֵי גְזֵלוֹת, וְלֹא נִגְזֹל וְלֹא נַעֲשׁוֹק אֶת חֲבֵרֵינוּ לְעוֹלָם אֲפִלּוּ שָׁוֶה פְּרוּטָה, וְלֹא נִגַּע בְּמָמוֹן וְחֶפְצֵי חֲבֵרֵנוּ כְּלָל, וְלֹא נַחְמֹד שׁוּם דָּבָר אֲשֶׁר לְרֵעֵנוּ.

Giving charity
In Your vast compassion, help me conduct my business activities honestly. Guard me against taking anything that is not mine. Don’t let me ever take anything belonging to someone else or withhold money owing to them — not even the tiniest sum. Don’t let me touch other people’s money or possessions at all, or covet anything that belongs to my friends.

וְתַעַזְרֵנוּ וְתוֹשִׁיעֵנוּ, שֶׁבְּכָל עֵת שֶׁנַּעֲסֹק בְּמַשָּׂא וּמַתָּן, יִהְיֶה כָל כַּוָּנָתֵינוּ בְּעֵסֶק הַמַּשָּׂא וּמַתָּן רַק לְשִׁמְךָ וְלַעֲבוֹדָתְךָ בֶּאֱמֶת,

In all my business activities, let my only intention be to serve You and give honor to Your Name.

וְנִזְכֶּה לְכַוֵּן בְּכָל דִּבּוּר וְדִבּוּר וּבְכָל הִלּוּךְ וְהִלּוּךְ שֶׁנְּדַבֵּר וְנֵלֵךְ בִּשְׁעַת הַמַּשָּׂא וּמַתָּן, בְּכֻלָּם נְכַוֵּן תָּמִיד בְּכָל עֵת, שֶׁכָּל כַּוָּנָתֵנוּ בַּעֲשִׂיַּת הַמַּשָּׂא וּמַתָּן כְּדֵי שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לִתֵּן צְדָקָה עַל־יְדֵי הָרֶוַח שֶׁנַּרְוִיחַ בְּזֶה הַמַּשָּׂא וּמַתָּן, וְכָל עִסְקֵנוּ וְחֶפְצֵנוּ בְּמַשָּׂא וּמַתָּן יִהְיֶה רַק בִּשְׁבִיל זֶה לְבַד בֶּאֱמֶת, בִּשְׁבִיל שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לִתֵּן צְדָקָה מֵהָרֶוַח שֶׁל הַמַּשָּׂא וּמַתָּן הַזֶּה. הַצְּדָקָה לַתִּקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי:

In every word I say and every step I take in the course of my business, let my sole intention be to give charity from the profit I make. Let this be my only purpose and desire in all my business activities — that I should be able to give charity from the profit I earn from this transaction.

וְתַעַזְרֵנִי וְתוֹשִׁיעֵנִי, שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לִזְכֹּר זֹאת תָּמִיד וּלְכַוֵּן זֹאת בְּכָל עֵת, בְּכָל הִלּוּךְ וְהִלּוּךְ וּבְכָל דִּבּוּר וְדִבּוּר וּבְכָל תְּנוּעָה וּתְנוּעָה שֶׁל הַמַּשָּׂא וּמַתָּן.

Help me remember this always and keep it in mind with every step I take, every word I say, and every movement I make in connection with my business.

וְתִפְתַּח אֶת לְבָבֵנוּ וּתְזַכֵּנוּ לְקַיֵּם זֹאת בֶּאֱמֶת, שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה לִתֵּן צְדָקָה הַרְבֵּה בְּכָל עֵת לַעֲנִיִּים הֲגוּנִים וּכְשֵׁרִים בֶּאֱמֶת, וְתַשְׁפִּיעַ לָנוּ שֶׁפַע טוֹבָה וּבְרָכָה, וְנִזְכֶּה לְהַחֲזִיק יְדֵי לוֹמְדֵי תוֹרָה וְעוֹבְדֵי יְהֹוָה בֶּאֱמֶת.

Open my heart and help me genuinely fulfill this. Let me always give plenty of charity to truly deserving people. Send me an abundance of good and blessing, and grant that I should be able to support Torah scholars and God-fearing people.

וְנִזְכֶּה לְקַיֵּם מִצְוַת צְדָקָה בִּשְׁלֵמוּת כִּרְצוֹנְךָ הַטּוֹב, וּבְלֵב טוֹב, וּבְסֵבֶר פָּנִים יָפוֹת, וּבְשִׂמְחָה גְּדוֹלָה וְחֶדְוָה רַבָּה וַעֲצוּמָה,

Let me fulfill the mitzvah of charity perfectly in the way You want, with an open heart and a kind expression on my face, with great joy and much delight.

עַד שֶׁנִּזְכֶּה עַל־יְדֵי הַצְּדָקָה לְרוֹמֵם אֶת הַמֹּחִין וְהַדַּעַת דִּקְדֻשָּׁה וּלְתַקֵּן תִּקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי שֶׁל הַמַּשָּׂא וּמַתָּן.

Through the charity I give, help me elevate my mind in holiness and accomplish the General Remedy for business.

וְנִזְכֶּה לְתַקֵּן עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה כָּל הַחֲטָאִים וְהַפְּגָמִים בְּמַשָּׂא וּמַתָּן, וּבְתַאֲוַת וְחֶמְדַּת הַמָּמוֹן, מִנְּעוּרֵינוּ עַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה,

Let this be my way of making amends for all my sins and transgressions in business, and for my lust and desire for money from my youth until today.

וּזְכוּת הַצְּדָקָה יָגֵן עָלֵינוּ, כְּנֶשֶׁר יָעִיר קִנּוֹ עַל גּוֹזָלָיו יְרַחֵף. וּתְכַפֵּר בַּעֲדֵנוּ, וַחֲטָאֵנוּ בִּצְדָקָה נִפְרֹק, וְנִזְכֶּה עַל־יְדֵי הַצְּדָקָה לַתִּקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי:

May the merit of giving charity protect me “as an eagle stirs up its nest and hovers over its young.” Grant atonement for me and let me redeem my sins with charity. Through charity, may I merit the General Remedy.

וְרַחֵם עָלֵינוּ וְעַל פְּלֵטָתֵנוּ וְעַל פְּלֵטַת עַמְּךָ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל, וְעָזְרֵנוּ וְהוֹשִׁיעֵנוּ וַהֲקִימֵנוּ מְהֵרָה מִנְּפִילָתֵינוּ הַגְּדוֹלָה וְהָעֲמוּקָה מְאֹד מְאֹד, אֲשֶׁר יָרַדְנוּ מַטָּה מַטָּה וְנָפַלְנוּ בְּגָלוּת גָּדוֹל מְאֹד זֶה כַמָּה שָׁנִים, בְּגוּף וָנֶפֶשׁ, בְּגַשְׁמִיּוּת וּבְרוּחָנִיּוּת, בִּכְלַל וּבִפְרָט.

Redemption
Have compassion on us and on the remnant of Your nation, the House of Israel. Help us and save us. Quickly lift us up from our terrible fall. We have descended lower and lower into the depths of this great exile, which has lasted for so many years now. It’s an exile of the body and the soul on every level, materially and spiritually. The whole people is in exile, and so is every single one of us.

מָרָא דְעַלְמָא כֹלָּא, סוֹמֵךְ נוֹפְלִים, חוּס וַחֲמֹל עָלֵינוּ וּסְמֹךְ אוֹתָנוּ בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים, וִיקֻיַּם בָּנוּ מִקְרָא שֶׁכָּתוּב, אַל תִּשְׂמְחִי אוֹיַבְתִּי לִי כִּי נָפַלְתִּי קָמְתִּי כִּי אֵשֵׁב בַּחֹשֶׁךְ יְהֹוָה אוֹר לִי. שְׁלַח יָדֶיךָ מִמָּרוֹם פְּצֵנִי וְהַצִּילֵנִי מִמַּיִם רַבִּים מִיַּד בְּנֵי נֵכָר. חָנֵּנִי וַהֲקִימֵנִי. דַּלּוּ עֵינַי לַמָרוֹם. יָדְךָ תִּכּוֹן עִמִּי אַף זְרוֹעֲךָ תְּאַמְּצֵנִי.

Master of the entire world, You support the fallen. Have pity on us and support us in Your vast compassion. May the verses be fulfilled in us, “Do not rejoice against me, my enemy: though I have fallen, I will rise up; though I sit in darkness, HaShem is a light to me.” “Stretch out Your hands from on high. Save me and rescue me out of the many waters, out of the hand of strangers.” Be kind to me and lift me up. My eyes are raised on high. “Your hand will keep me firm; Your arm will strengthen me.”

וְהוֹצִיאֵנִי וְהַעֲלֵנִי מְהֵרָה מִכָּל הַנְּפִילוֹת וְהַיְרִידוֹת, שֶׁיָּרַדְתִּי וְנָפַלְתִּי עַד הֵנָּה וְנִתְרַחַקְתִּי מִמְּךָ וּמֵעֲבוֹדָתְךָ מְאֹד.

Release me and quickly pick me up from all the places I have fallen and descended to. I am so far from You. I am so distant from Your service.

חוּסָה עָלַי כְּרֹב רַחֲמֶיךָ, כִּי אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ כִּי אֵין מִי שֶׁיַּעֲמֹד בַּעֲדֵנוּ בִּנְפִילָתֵנוּ הַגְּדוֹלָה הַזֹּאת אֲשֶׁר יָרַדְנוּ פְּלָאִים, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב, וַתֵּרֶד פְּלָאִים, אֵין עוֹזֵר לָהּ.

Merciful God, have pity on me! For You know that we have no one to stand up for us now that we have fallen so low and so astonishingly. As it is written, “She has fallen wondrously, she has no one to help her.”

וּכְמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב, הִשְׁלִיךְ מִשָּׁמַיִם אֶרֶץ תִּפְאֶרֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל. מֵאִגְרָא רָמָא לְבִירָא עֲמִיקְתָּא. וְאֵין מִי שֶׁיַּעֲמֹד בַּעֲדֵנוּ וְאֵין מִי שֶׁיּוּכַל לְהָקִים אוֹתָנוּ מִנְּפִילוֹתֵינוּ כִּי אִם אַתָּה לְבַד. וּתְקַיֵּם מִקְרָא שֶׁכָּתוּב, כְּמוֹ שֶׁדָּרְשׁוּ חֲכָמֵינוּ זִכְרוֹנָם לִבְרָכָה, נָפְלָה וְלֹא תוֹסִיף לִפּוֹל עוֹד. וְתֹאמַר אַתָּה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל, קוּם בְּתוּלַת יִשְׂרָאֵל.

It is also written, “He has cast down from Heaven to earth the glory of Israel” — “from the highest roof to the deepest pit.” And there is no one who will stand up for us, or anyone who can lift us up from our fall except You alone. Fulfill the verse as our sages explained it, “She fell, and will not [fall anymore. And You, God, say to the Jewish people:] Rise up, Maiden of Israel.”

חוּס וַחֲמֹל עָלֵינוּ וַעֲזֹר לָנוּ לְתַקֵּן אֶת מֹחֵנוּ וְדַעְתֵּנוּ עַל־יְדֵי תִקּוּן הַבְּרִית בֶּאֱמֶת בִּשְׁלֵמוּת. וְתַצִּילֵנִי מֵעַתָּה מִכָּל מִינֵי נְפִילוֹת מֵעֲבוֹדָתְךָ חַס וְשָׁלוֹם,

Have mercy on us and help us rectify our minds through true and complete observance of the covenant. Protect me from ever falling down again in my efforts to serve You.

וְתַעֲזֹר לָנוּ מֵעַתָּה לַעֲלוֹת וְלָקוּם מְהֵרָה מִכָּל הַנְּפִילוֹת שֶׁנָּפַלְנוּ עַד הֵנָּה, וְתָקִים אֶת סֻכַּת דָּוִיד הַנּוֹפֶלֶת:

Help me rise up quickly from all the descents I have fallen to until now. Lift up the fallen sukkah of David.

רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל עוֹלָם, אֵלֶיךָ שִׁטַּחְתִּי אֶת כַּפָּי, הֲקִימֵנִי וְאֶחְיֶה, לֹא תוּכַל לְהִתְעַלֵּם, מֵאָחִיךָ הָאֶבְיוֹן, עָזֹב תַּעֲזֹב, וְהָקֵם תָּקִים.

Master of the world, I stretch out my hands to You — lift me up and I will live. “You cannot hide from Your needy brother. You must surely help and lift [him] up.”

וְהַצִּילֵנִי אוֹתִי וְאֶת זַרְעִי וְאֶת זֶרַע זַרְעִי וְאֶת כָּל עַמְּךָ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל, וְתִשְׁמְרֵנוּ וּתְמַלְּטֵנוּ שֶׁלֹּא יָבוֹא שׁוּם אֶחָד מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל לְחֹלִי נוֹפֵל חַס וְשָׁלוֹם,

Save and protect me, my children, my descendants, and Your entire nation, the House of Israel, from epilepsy. Don’t let a single Jew ever suffer from this condition.

וּתְרַחֵם עַל עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל, עַל כָּל אוֹתָן שֶׁכְּבָר בָּאוּ לְחוֹלַאַת הַמָּרָה הַזֹּאת, וְתִרְפָּאֵם בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים רְפוּאָה שְׁלֵמָה, וְתָקִים אוֹתָם מִנְּפִילָתָם וּתְשִׁיבֵם לְאֵיתָנָם,

Have mercy on Your people Israel, on all those who are already afflicted with this bitter condition, and in Your vast compassion, cure them completely. Raise them up from their fall and restore their strength.

וְתִשְׁלַח לָהֶם מְהֵרָה רְפוּאָה שְׁלֵמָה מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם רְפוּאַת הַנֶּפֶשׁ וּרְפוּאַת הַגּוּף, כִּי אֵל מֶלֶךְ רוֹפֵא נֶאֱמָן וְרַחֲמָן אָתָּה:

Send them perfect healing from Heaven very soon, spiritually and physically. For You, God, O King, are a faithful and compassionate Healer.

וְרַחֵם עָלֵינוּ, וְהַצֵּל אוֹתִי וְאֶת זַרְעִי וְכָל עַמְּךָ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל, מִכָּל מִינֵי שִׁכְרוּת שֶׁל יַיִן וּשְׁאָר מַשְׁקִים הַמְשַׁכְּרִין, וְלֹא אָבוֹא לִידֵי שִׁכְרוּת לְעוֹלָם,

Avoiding drunkenness
Have mercy on me and save me, my children, and Your entire nation, the House of Israel, from all forms of drunkenness, whether from wine or other intoxicating beverages. Don’t let me ever become drunk.

כִּי אַתָּה גִּלִּיתָ עַל־יְדֵי חֲכָמֶיךָ הַקְּדוֹשִׁים גֹּדֶל הַפְּגַָם הַנּוֹרָא שֶׁל הַשִּׁכְרוּת חַס וְשָׁלוֹם. חוּס וְחָנֵּנוּ וְרַחֵם עָלֵינוּ וְהַצִּילֵנוּ מִשְּׁתִיָּה מְרֻבָּה הַמְּבִיאָה לִידֵי שִׁכְרוּת,

For You have revealed to us through Your holy sages how damaging drunkenness is. Have pity on me. Be kind to me. Have compassion on me and save me from the excessive drinking that leads to drunkenness.

וַאֲפִלּוּ מְעַט הַשְּׁתִיָּה הַמֻּכְרַחַת בְּשַׁבָּתוֹת וְיָמִים טוֹבִים, תְּזַכֵּנִי שֶׁתִּהְיֶה הַשְּׁתִיָּה בִּקְדֻשָּׁה וּבְטָהֳרָה גְּדוֹלָה, וְנִזְכֶּה לְהָרִים אֶת מֹחֵנוּ וְדַעְתֵּנוּ לְשִׁמְךָ וְלַעֲבוֹדָתְךָ עַל־יְדֵי מְעַט הַשְּׁתִיָּה בַּיָּמִים הַקְּדוֹשִׁים.

Even on Shabbat and festivals, let me drink in moderation and in great holiness and purity, so as to elevate my mind and attain higher levels of awareness for the sake of Your Name and Your service.

וְנִזְכֶּה שֶׁלֹּא יֵצֵא מִפִּינוּ שׁוּם דִּבּוּר שֶׁלֹּא כִּרְצוֹנְךָ, עַל־יְדֵי שְׁתִיַּת הַיַּיִן אוֹ מַשְׁקֶה הַמְשַׁכֵּר, וְלֹא נְדַבֵּר אָז שׁוּם דִּבּוּר שֶׁאֵין צְרִיכִין לְגַלּוֹת, רַק נִזְכֶּה לְדַבֵּר בִּקְדֻשָּׁה וּבְטָהֳרָה דִּבּוּרִים שֶׁהֵם רְצוֹנְךָ הַטּוֹב בֶּאֱמֶת, בְּשִׂמְחָה וּבְטוּב לֵבָב, וְלֹא נָבוֹא לִידֵי שִׁכְרוּת לְעוֹלָם, וְתַצִּילֵנִי בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ מִיַּיִן הַמְשַׁכֵּר, וּתְזַכֵּנִי לְיַיִן, הַמְשַׂמֵּחַ אֱלֹהִים וַאֲנָשִׁים:

Don’t let a single word that is not in keeping with Your will ever leave my lips as a result of drinking wine or intoxicating beverages. When I drink, don’t let me ever say a word about anything that should be kept a secret. Let me speak only in holiness and purity words that are in accordance with Your will. Let me be truthful, joyous and with a happy heart.

חוּס וְחָנֵּנוּ וּמַלֵּא מִשְׁאֲלוֹתֵינוּ בְּרַחֲמִים, וְזַכֵּנוּ מְהֵרָה לְתִקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי בִּשְׁלֵמוּת בְּכָל הַבְּחִינוֹת. הֵן תִּקּוּן הַבְּרִית שֶׁהוּא כְּלָלִיּוּת הַגִּידִין שֶׁהוּא תִקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי שֶׁל כָּל הַשְׁסָ"ה לָאוִין שֶׁבַּתּוֹרָה, הֵן תִּקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי שֶׁל הַדִּבּוּר עַל־יְדֵי שֶׁבַח הַצַּדִּיקִים, הֵן תִּקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי שֶׁל הַמַּשָּׂא וּמַתָּן עַל־יְדֵי הַצְּדָקָה, הֵן תִּקּוּן הַבְּגָדִים, לְכֻלָּם תְּזַכֵּנוּ בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים חִישׁ קַל מְהֵרָה.

May I never come to drunkenness. Compassionate God, rescue me from the wine that causes drunkenness, and let me taste only the wine that “brings joy to God and men.” Have pity on me, be kind to me, and fulfill my requests with mercy. Quickly bring me to the General Remedy on every level — observance of the covenant, which encompasses all the arteries and veins in the body and is the General Remedy for all of the 365 prohibitions of the Torah; the General Remedy for speech, through speaking in praise of the tzaddikim; the General Remedy for business activities, through giving charity; and keeping one’s clothes clean. In Your vast compassion, help me merit all of these quickly, swiftly and speedily.

כִּי אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ, כִּי אִי אֶפְשָׁר לָנוּ לְתַקֵּן כָּל דָּבָר וְדָבָר בִּפְרָטִיּוּת, כִּי הֵם רַבִּים מְאֹד, כִּי פָּגַמְנוּ הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד. רַחֵם עָלֵינוּ וְהוֹשִׁיעֵנוּ מְהֵרָה לְמַעַן שְׁמֶךָ, וְזַכֵּנוּ בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים וּבַחֲסָדֶיךָ הָעֲצוּמִים, לְתִקּוּן הַכְּלָלִי בֶּאֱמֶת וּבִשְׁלֵמוּת בְּכָל הַבְּחִינוֹת, וַעֲשֵׂה לְמַעַנְךָ וּלְמַעַן הַצַּדִּיקֵי אֱמֶת וְלֹא לְמַעֲנֵנוּ. וּמֵעָפָר תְּקִימֵינוּ וּמֵאַשְׁפּוֹת דַּלּוּתֵנוּ תְרוֹמְמֵנוּ, וּבְכָל הַתִּקּוּנִים הַכְּלָלִיִּים וְהַפְּרָטִיִּים תְּתַקְּנֵנוּ, וּבְטוּבְךָ הַגָּדוֹל תַּשְׂבִּיעֵנוּ,

For You know that it is impossible for me to rectify everything individually because there are so many sins, and I have done so much damage. Have compassion on me and save me quickly for Your Name’s sake. In Your abundant mercy and tremendous kindness, grant me the General Remedy in truth and perfection on every level. Do it for Your sake and for the sake of the true tzaddikim, and not for our sake. Lift us up from the dust and raise us from the scrap heap of our degradation. Heal us with all the remedies, general and particular. Satisfy us with Your great goodness.

וְתִשְׁמַע וּתְקַבֵּל צַעֲקָתֵנוּ וּתְפִלָּתֵנוּ וְתַחֲנוּנֵינוּ, וּבְכָל מִינֵי טָהֳרוֹת וּקְדֻשּׁוֹת תְּטַהֲרֵנוּ וּתְקַדְּשֵׁנוּ, וּתְקַיֵּם מְהֵרָה מִקְרָא שֶׁכָּתוּב, וְעָשִׂיתִי אֵת אֲשֶׁר בְּחֻקַּי תֵּלֵכוּ וּמִשְׁפָּטַי תִּשְׁמְרוּ וַעֲשִׂיתֶם.

Hear and accept our cries, prayers and requests. Purify and sanctify us in every way, and quickly fulfill the verse, “I will cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will guard My judgments and do them.”

חָנֵּנוּ וַעֲנֵנוּ וּשְׁמַע קוֹל תְּפִלּוֹתֵינוּ כִּי אַתָּה שׁוֹמֵעַ תְּפִלַּת כָּל פֶּה עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּרַחֲמִים. בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה שׁוֹמֵעַ תְּפִלָּה:

Be kind to us, answer us, and hear our prayers. For You hearken to the prayer of every single one of Your people Israel with compassion. Blessed are You Who hear prayer.
