Several people once came to see the Rebbe. He took a piece of paper that had his handwriting on it and held the paper in his hand. He said, “How many lessons are written on this paper! Many worlds are nourished through the smoke of these lessons.” The Rebbe then took the paper and burned it with the lamp.
Then he said, “There are many Torah lessons that have never been put into writing. Just to write them and draw them into letters is itself something very special.”313Likutey Moharan II, 28, 32. The Rebbe himself burned many of his writings; see note 216.
פַּעַם אַחַת נִכְנְסוּ אֲנָשִׁים אֵלָיו. וְהוֹצִיא חֲתִיכַת נְיָר בְּיָדוֹ. וְהָיָה כָּתוּב עָלָיו בִּכְתִיבַת יָדוֹ הַקָּדוֹשׁ. וַאֲחָזוֹ בְּיָדוֹ, וְעָנָה וְאָמַר: "כַּמָּה תּוֹרוֹת כְּתֻבוֹת עַל חֲתִיכַת נְיָר הַזֶּה". וְאָמַר: שֶׁיֵּשׁ כַּמָּה וְכַמָּה עוֹלָמוֹת שֶׁהֵם נִזּוֹנִין וְיֵשׁ לָהֶם חִיּוּת מֵהֶעָשָׁן שֶׁל הַתּוֹרָה שֶׁלּוֹ. וְנָטַל הַנְּיָר וּשְׂרָפוֹ אֵצֶל הַנֵּר.

(כְּלוֹמַר אֲבָל עֲדַיִן אֵין הָעוֹלָם כְּדַאי שֶׁיֻּכְנְסוּ לְתוֹךְ הָעוֹלָם רַק שֶׁזֶּהוּ גַּם כֵּן חִדּוּשׁ גָּדוֹל כְּשֶׁבָּאוּ עַל כָּל פָּנִים לְתוֹךְ תְּמוּנוֹת אוֹתִיּוֹת כַּנַּ"ל).
[That is, whilst the world may not yet be ready for these teachings, but to put them into written letters has a very unique merit.]
