    וְדַע, דַּאֲפִלּוּ אִם אֵינוֹ אוֹמֵר לוֹ בְּפֵרוּשׁ שֵׁם הָאִישׁ הַהוּא (טז) שֶׁרִגֵּל עָלָיו, רַק הוּא (יז) מְסַפֵּר לוֹ סְתָם, וְעַל יְדֵי סִפּוּרוֹ מִמֵּילָא נִתְוַדַּע לוֹ אַחַר כָּךְ שֵׁם הָאִישׁ הַהוּא, אוֹ שֶׁעֶצֶּם הָעִנְיָן, מַה שֶּׁדִּבְּרוּ עָלָיו, אוֹ שֶׁנַּעֲשָׂה לוֹ, יָדַע מֵּעַצְּמוֹ, אַךְ לֹא יָדַע מִי עָשָׂה לוֹ, אוֹ דִּבֵּר עָלָיו זֶה, וּבָא זֶה הַמְרַגֵּל וְהֶרְאָה לוֹ (יח) בְּדֶרֶךְ רֶמֶז, שֶׁיָּבִין מִי הוּא, גַּם כֵּן אָסוּר.

    And know that if he does not mention explicitly the name of the man who spoke rechiluth against him, but only speaks in general terms, and afterwards there becomes known to him [(the one about whom the story is told)], the name of that man, or the specifics of what was said about him — or if he knew by himself what was done to him, but did not know who did it or who spoke against him, and this vendor of rechiluth came and showed him by signs who it was — this, too, is forbidden.
