לא תשיג גבול רעך אשר גבלו ראשונים שתקנו הנגונים שלא יאמר נגון של תורה לנביאים ולכתובים ושל נביאים לתורה ולכתובים. ושל כתובים לתורה ונביאים אלא כל נגון כמו שהוא מתוקן שהכל הלכה למשה מסיני שנאמר (שמות יט יט) יעננו בקול:
"Do not move your fellow's border, as the first ones bordered" (Deut. 19:14) — that they established the melodies, that one not use the Torah melody for the prophets or writings, or the prophetic melody for Torah and writings, or the writings melody for Torah or the prophets. Rather, every melody is as it was established, for it is all a law given to Moshe from Sinai, as is said (Ex. 19:19) "answered him in sound."
