ונתן לך רחמים ורחמך המרחם על הבריות מן השמים ירחמו עליו אם אין אדם מרחם מה בינו לבין בהמה שאינה מקפדת וחוששת בצער חברתה:
“And show thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee” (Deut. 13:18). He who has compassion for creatures, heaven will have compassion upon him.1Shabbath 151b. If a person is not merciful there is no difference between him and an animal which is not sensitive to the suffering of its neighbor.
