טעם. שנס חנוכה לא נזכר כלל במשנה. לפי שרבינו הקדוש מסדר המשנה. הי' מזרע דהמע"ה ונס חנוכה נעשה ע"י בית החשמונאים שתפסו המלוכה ולא היו מזרע דוד וזה הרע לרבינו הקדוש ובכתבו המשנה עפ"י רוח הקודש נשמט הנס מחיבורו. בשם הגאון הקדוש בעל חת"ס זצוק"ל:
The reason that the miracle of Ḥanukkah is not mentioned at all in the Mishnah is that our holy Rabbi [Judah the Prince], the compiler of the Mishnah, was from the line of King David, peace be upon him. And the miracle of Ḥanukkah was done by the Hasmoneans, who seized the kingship and were not of the line of David. And this was bad for our holy Rabbi, so as he wrote the Mishnah according to the holy spirit, the miracle was dropped from its composition. This is in the name of the holy genius, the author of the Ḥatam Sofer, may his righteous and holy memory be for a blessing.
