When they are established in a man's heart, and he clarifies for himself that they are the pillars of his service and the roots of his actions, he will be able to fully devote his actions to G-d, and he will not turn nor hope to anyone else, nor have any other intent in them other than to do His will.
(10) Whenever the yetzer (evil inclination, lower self) stirs an urge in one's heart, to take counsel from the intellect and follow it, and not to follow the yetzer.
אֲבָל בְּמָה יִהְיֶה יִחוּד הַמַּעֲשֶׂה לֵאלֹהִים לְבַדּוֹ. בַּעֲשָׂרָה עִנְיָנִים.
How can one come to devote all of his actions to G-d alone? Through ten matters.
כַּאֲשֶׁר יִתְקַיְּמוּ בְּלֵב הָאָדָם וְיִתְבָּרֵר אֶצְלוֹ כִּי הֵם אַדְנֵי עֲבוֹדָתוֹ וְשָׁרְשֵׁי מַעֲשֵׂהוּ יִשְׁלַם יִחוּדוֹ בָּהֶם לְשֵׁם הָאֵל וְלֹא יִפְנֶה אֶל זוּלָתוֹ וְלֹא יְקַוֶּה בִּלְעָדָיו וְלֹא יְכַוֵּן בָּהֶם זוּלָתִי רְצוֹנוֹ.

הָרִאשׁוֹן יִחוּד הָאֱלֹהִים בְּלֵב שָׁלֵם כַּאֲשֶׁר קָדַם בִּתְחִלַּת סִפְרִי זֶה.
(1) To believe with a complete heart, the unity of G-d, as I explained in the beginning of this book.
וְהַשֵּׁנִי הַבְּחִינָה בְּטוֹבוֹת הָאֱלֹהִים וְהַתְמָדָתָן עָלָיו כַּאֲשֶׁר בֵּאַרְנוּ בּוֹ.
(2) Reflecting on the constant favors of G-d on oneself, as we explained (gate 2).
וְהַשְּׁלִישִׁי שֶׁיְּקַבֵּל עָלָיו הָעֲבוֹדָה לֵאלֹהִים כַּאֲשֶׁר זָכַרְתִּי בּוֹ.
(3) To take on oneself the duty to serve G-d, as mentioned (gate 3).
וְהָרְבִיעִי שֶׁיּוֹדֶה בַּבִּטָּחוֹן עָלָיו מִבִּלְתִּי הַבְּרוּאִים.
(4) to realize the duty to place one's trust in G-d [alone] and not in the created beings.
וְהַחֲמִישִׁי שֶׁיַּאֲמִין כִּי הַתּוֹעֶלֶת וְהַנֶּזֶק אֵינָם בְּיַד נִבְרָא וְלֹא בִּיכָלְתּוֹ מִבִּלְתִּי רְשׁוּת הַבּוֹרֵא.
(5) To realize that help or harm is not in the hands of any created being without the permission of the Creator.
וְהַשִּׁשִּׁי שֶׁיִּהְיֶה שָׁוֶה אֶצְלוֹ אִם יְשַׁבְּחוּהוּ בְּנֵי אָדָם אוֹ יְגַנּוּהוּ.
(6) That it be equal to oneself whether people praise or scorn him.
וְהַשְּׁבִיעִי שֶׁיַּעֲזֹב הַיִּפּוּי לִבְנֵי אָדָם.
(7) To abandon trying to embellish oneself to others.
וְהַשְּׁמִינִי לְפַנּוֹת לִבּוֹ מֵעִסְקֵי הָעוֹלָם בְּעֵת שֶׁהוּא עֹשֶׂה לעוה״ב.
(8) To turn the heart away from worldly interests when occupied with matters of the next world.
וְהַתְּשִׁיעִי שֶׁיִּירָא מֵאֱלֹהִים וְיֵבוֹשׁ מִמֶּנּוּ.
(9) To fear G-d and feel embarrassed from Him.
וְהָעֲשִׂירִי שֶׁיִּוָּעֵץ עִם הַשֵּׂכֶל בְּכָל הִרְהוּרֵי הַיֵּצֶר בְּלִבּוֹ וּלְקַבֵּל עֲצָתוֹ מִבִּלְתִּי עֲצַת יִצְרוֹ:
