Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Third Day of the Ten Days of Penitence, Chapter 4

‹›
  1. 1

  2. 2

Our God and God of our fathers!

  3. 3

    To You, Almighty,

  4. 4

are the eyes of all creatures raised

  5. 5

    because before You

  6. 6

    the hidden [things] are revealed.

  7. 7

    Great is Your counsel

  8. 8

    and abundant are Your deeds,

  9. 9

    the true Judge and Reprover

  10. 10

the witness and plaintiff to all creatures.1I.e. He is the witness and accuser.

  11. 11

Surely, there is no favoritism before You

  12. 12

for the rich and poor are equally judged.

  13. 13

    Seek the merits

  14. 14

    of Your trustworthy children.

  15. 15

    Be compassionate to them

  16. 16

as a father is compassionate to children.

  17. 17

    You arranged and preceded

  18. 18

    repentance before creation,

  19. 19

    to discard evil deeds

  20. 20

and to choose to do [henceforth]

  21. 21

    praiseworthy deeds.

  22. 22

The power of the ‘Evil Inclination,’

  23. 23

    that entices and seduces

  24. 24

    [man] from his youth [on],

  25. 25

    for Your sake, repel him

  26. 26

so that he will no longer cause error

  27. 27

to those whose heart he has entrapped.

  28. 28

    Arrange for us, before You

  29. 29

    a complete repentance,

  30. 30

Enlightened One,2I.e. God. in Your hands are

  31. 31

the hidden of the spirit and soul.

  32. 32

    Cleanse our thoughts

  33. 33

    from sin and guilt,

  34. 34

so that we may return to You

  35. 35

    without perverseness and deceit.

  36. 36

    Your wonders are many wonders,

  37. 37

    צִדְקוֹתֶיךָ צֶדֶק נוֹרָאוֹת.

    Your justice is an awesome justice;

  38. 38

those who call You with trepidation and fear.

  39. 39

    Please turn towards their prayer

  40. 40

and do for them a sign that is good.3‘A sign—good’ i.e. show them a sign that You accept their prayer.

  41. 41

    We have sought you

  42. 42

before the rising of the morningstar.

  43. 43

    Shine Your countenance upon us

  44. 44

like the light of the morningstar.

  45. 45

    With Your illumination cast light

  46. 46

that is as visible as the morningstar.

  47. 47

My Master, hear! My Master, forgive!

  48. 48

My Master, be attentive! and do it,

  49. 49

    do not delay!

  50. 50

    Almighty! King!

  51. 51

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  52. 52

    governs with kindness

  53. 53

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  54. 54

He removes their sins one by one,

  55. 55

    increasing forgiveness to sinners,

  56. 56

    and pardon to transgressors.

  57. 57

    Acting righteously

  58. 58

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  59. 59

    not according to their wickedness

  60. 60

    does He repay them.

  61. 61

    Almighty!

  62. 62

    You instructed us to recite

  63. 63

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  64. 64

    remember unto us this day

  65. 65

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  66. 66

    as You made them known

  67. 67

to the humble Moses of old,

  68. 68

    as it is written,

  69. 69

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  70. 70

    and stood with him there,

  71. 71

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  72. 72

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  73. 73

And Adonoy passed before him [Moses],

  74. 74

    and proclaimed:

  75. 75

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  76. 76

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  77. 77

    Slow to Anger,

  78. 78

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  79. 79

    Keeper of kindness

  80. 80

    for thousands of generations,

  81. 81

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  82. 82

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  83. 83

and Acquitter of those who repent.

  84. 84

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  85. 85

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  86. 86

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  87. 87

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  88. 88

    “For You, my Master,

  89. 89

    are good and forgiving,

  90. 90

    and abounding in kindness

  91. 91

to all who call upon You.”

  92. 92

    Like the stag yearns

  93. 93

    for flowing streams of water,

  94. 94

    so does our soul yearn

  95. 95

    for You, O God.

  96. 96

O God, the insolent rise against us,

  97. 97

and the congregation of tyrants seek our soul,

  98. 98

and they do not set Your Presence

  99. 99

    before them, selah.

  100. 100

They said, we will inherit them,

  101. 101

[they who are] the favored of God.

  102. 102

Because of this, will Adonoy restrain Himself,

  103. 103

be silent, and allow us to be tortured

  104. 104

    so greatly?

  105. 105

As a father has compassion on his children

  106. 106

so do You have compassion on us, Adonoy.

  107. 107

    לַיהֹוָה הַיְשׁוּעָה,

    Deliverance is Adonoy’s;

  108. 108

upon Your people is Your blessing. Selah!

  109. 109

Adonoy of Hosts is with us,

  110. 110

a stronghold for us is the God of Jacob. Selah!

  111. 111

    Adonoy of Hosts!

  112. 112

fortunate is the man who trusts in You.

  113. 113

    יְהֹוָה הוֹשִֽׁיעָה,

    Adonoy, deliver us;

  114. 114

the King will answer us on the day we call.

  115. 115

“Please pardon the sins of this nation

  116. 116

    in accordance with the greatness

  117. 117

    חַסְדֶּֽךָ.

    of Your lovingkindness;

  118. 118

and as You forgave this people

  119. 119

from when it left Egypt until now.”

  120. 120

    And there it is said:

  121. 121

    “And Adonoy said,

  122. 122

I have pardoned [them] as you have asked.”

  123. 123

Incline Your ear, my God, and hear,

  124. 124

open Your eyes and behold our desolate places,

  125. 125

    וְהָעִיר אֲשֶׁר נִקְרָא שִׁמְךָ עָלֶֽיהָ

    and the city which is called by Your Name;

  126. 126

for it is not on account of our righteousness

  127. 127

that we let fall our supplication before You,

  128. 128

but because of Your great mercy.

  129. 129

My Master, hear! My Master, pardon!

  130. 130

My Master, listen and take action,

  131. 131

    do not delay!

  132. 132

    For Your sake, my God,

  133. 133

    because Your Name is proclaimed

  134. 134

over Your city and over Your people.
