my Salvation1Lit. the horn of my salvation. He fights against my enemies as an ox who gores with its horn as it attacks. and my Assurance,

  6. 6

during my times of trial and pain.

  7. 7

I wake up early to pray unto You,

  8. 8

    O Great King,

  9. 9

    and unto You, Adonoy

  10. 10

    I cry in the morning.

  11. 11

In the morning remember to have mercy

  12. 12

in the merit of Abraham’s kindness,

  13. 13

the first patriarch of “the strong ones,”

  14. 14

    the one whom You chose

  15. 15

    and who trusted in You,

  16. 16

    the first of all believers.

  17. 17

    Remember his covenant with You

  18. 18

and deliver me from my sins.

  19. 19

Adonoy, listen this morning to my voice,

  20. 20

to my prayer of the morning.

  21. 21

In the morning You spoke with him2Abraham.

  22. 22

and tested him in order to reward him

  23. 23

and You made a covenant with him

  24. 24

to serve as a protector for him.

  25. 25

You loved him and wanted him

  26. 26

and accepted him like the incense

  27. 27

    that was brought each morning.

  28. 28

    When the morning star shone,

  29. 29

    when You wished to show

  30. 30

    his great rightousness,

  31. 31

You tested him a tenth time

  32. 32

and said to him: Take your son,

  33. 33

    and do not hesitate,

  34. 34

    to one of the mountains

  35. 35

and bring him there as a burnt offering

  36. 36

    just as the sheep that

  37. 37

you bring as a sacrifice in the morning.

  38. 38

In the morning he singularized Your Name

  39. 39

    and harkened to Your voice

  40. 40

    and manifested his love

  41. 41

    while rejoicing whole-heartedly

  42. 42

    to fulfill Your command.

  43. 43

His love made him transcend normalcy

  44. 44

    by rising with joy.

  45. 45

And Abraham rose early in the morning.

  46. 46

In the morning both readied their hearts

  47. 47

to do Your will, O awesome One.

  48. 48

    The son took the wood

  49. 49

and the father took the knife

  50. 50

to slaughter without intending to redeem him.

  51. 51

    They were summoned

  52. 52

    and went with whole hearts

  53. 53

    and saw Your Divine honor

  54. 54

on the third day in the morning.

  55. 55

In the morning he girded himself

  56. 56

as a warrior girds his loins.

  57. 57

    He first bound his son

  58. 58

then took a knife to slaughter him,

  59. 59

without thinking of him as a human being

  60. 60

and said: “Today I will bring my offering

  61. 61

and sprinkle the blood of my sacrifice.”

  62. 62

It will not remain until the morning.

  63. 63

In the morning Your mercy was aroused

  64. 64

    on the only son

  65. 65

and that mercy shone upon him.

  66. 66

An angel of Adonoy called to him

  67. 67

and said not to harm the lad

  68. 68

    because in Isaac

  69. 69

    will Your seed be perpetuated,

  70. 70

[and the merit of this event] will be remembered for all generations,

  71. 71

it will remain as a safe-keeping for you

  72. 72

until the morning.3Until the redemption which is analogous to morning.

  73. 73

    In the morning

  74. 74

    his4Isaac’s. propriety and righteousness

  75. 75

will benefit the people who pray to You

  76. 76

and his ashes will always be seen before You

  77. 77

to cleanse them from their sins.

  78. 78

Grant them their lives which is their request,

  79. 79

because it is You Whom they desire.

  80. 80

In the evening they come to You in prayer

  81. 81

    and also in the morning.

  82. 82

Harken to their voices in the morning

  83. 83

    and atone their iniquities.

  84. 84

Consider the order of their prayers

  85. 85

like the order of the sacrifices.

  86. 86

    They come with the merits

  87. 87

of the righteousness of their ancestors.

  88. 88

    And also bring to Him

  89. 89

their contributions of prayer every morning.

  90. 90

In the morning turn to us and have mercy

  91. 91

and let Your mercy be aroused upon us.

  92. 92

Cast to the depths of the sea

  93. 93

    all our sins

  94. 94

and let them not be remembered.

  95. 95

Lord, our Rock, pass our sins from before You

  96. 96

and let them not remain before You

  97. 97

    until the morning.

  98. 98

    Almighty! King!

  99. 99

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  100. 100

    governs with kindness

  101. 101

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  102. 102

He removes their sins one by one,

  103. 103

    not according to their wickedness

  108. 108

    does He repay them.

  109. 109

    Almighty!

  110. 110

    You instructed us to recite

  111. 111

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  112. 112

    remember unto us this day

  113. 113

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  114. 114

    as You made them known

  115. 115

to the humble Moses of old,

  116. 116

    as it is written,

  117. 117

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  118. 118

    and stood with him there,

  119. 119

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  120. 120

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  121. 121

    וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהֹוָה עַל פָּנָיו

    And Adonoy passed before him [Moses];

  122. 122

    and proclaimed:

  123. 123

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  124. 124

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  125. 125

    Slow to Anger,

  126. 126

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  127. 127

    Keeper of kindness

  128. 128

    for thousands of generations,

  129. 129

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  130. 130

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  131. 131

and Acquitter of those who repent.”

  132. 132

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  133. 133

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  134. 134

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  135. 135

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  136. 136

    “For You, my Master,

  137. 137

    are good and forgiving,

  138. 138

    and abounding in kindness

  139. 139

to all who call upon You.”

  140. 140

    The Ark is opened.

  141. 141

Do not enter into judgment with us

  142. 142

for no living soul will be justified before You.1Psalms 143:2.

  143. 143

And He judges the inhabited world

  144. 144

    בְּצֶדֶק

    with justice;

  145. 145

and the peoples with righteousness.2Psalms 9:9.

  146. 146

    Righteousness and justice

  147. 147

are the foundations of Your throne,

  148. 148

kindness and truth go before Your Presence.3Psalms 89:15.

  149. 149

    From before You

  150. 150

    מִשְׁפָּטֵנוּ יֵצֵא,

    let our judgment come forth;

  151. 151

let Your eyes behold [my] uprightness.4Psalms 17:2.

  152. 152

And bring forth as the light

  153. 153

    our righteousness,

  154. 154

and our judgment as the noonday.5Psalms 37:6.

  155. 155

    For Your judgments

  156. 156

    they stand [ready] this day,

  157. 157

for they are all Your servants.6Psalms 119:91.

  158. 158

    For Adonoy is our judge,

  159. 159

    יְהוָה מְחֹקְקֵנוּ

    Adonoy is our law-giver;

  160. 160

Adonoy is our king, He will deliver us.7Isaiah 33:22.

  161. 161

    Arise Judge of the earth,

  162. 162

repay the arrogant their just reward.8Psalms 94:2.

  163. 163

It would be sacrilege to ascribe to You

  164. 164

    such an act—

  165. 165

to kill the righteous with the wicked,

  166. 166

    וְהָיָה כַצַּדִּיק כָּרָשָׁע,

    and let the righteous fare as the wicked;

  167. 167

it would be sacrilege to ascribe to You—

  168. 168

[that] the Judge of all the earth

  169. 169

    does not act justly.9Genesis 18:25.
