2. “They shall wash their hands over the beheaded calf, in the river-bed” (Dt.21:6)— over the place of the calf’s beheading. Is it possible to say that they should ascend from the river-bed before reciting [the formula of denial]? The Teaching states: “In the river-bed” (Dt.21:6)— let all their recitals and responses come from the river-bed.
