בני, בואו ואלמדכם מעלת הבושת. דעו בני כי מעלת מידת הבושת מעלה חשובה עד מאד, שכל מי שיש לו בושת פנים ניצול מן החטאים והעונות, כענין שנאמר ויאמר משה אל העם אל תיראו כי לבעבור נסות אתכם בא האלהים, ובעבור תהיה יראתו על פניכם לבלתי תחטאו, ואמרו חז"ל בעבור תהיה יראתו על פניכם, זו בושה. לבלתי תחטאו, מלמד שהבושה מביאה לידי יראת חטא. מיכן אמרו סימן יפה לאדם שיהא בושן. ואמר חכם אחד: סימן הבנים הכשירים הבושת הנראה על פניהם.
My children, come and I will teach you about the virtue of **shame (bushah)**. Know, my children, that the quality of modest shame is an exceedingly important virtue. Anyone who possesses a sense of shame is saved from sins and transgressions. As it is written: *"Moses answered the people, “Be not afraid; for God has come only in order to test you, and in order that the fear of God may be ever with you, so that you do not go astray."* (Shemot 20:17). Our Sages said: *“ that the fear of God may be ever with you”*, this refers to **shame**. *“So that you do not go astray”*, this teaches that **shame leads a person to fear of sin**. From here they said: **A good sign for a person is that he is bashful.** And one wise man said: **A sign of worthy children is the modest shame that appears upon their faces.*
