ואמר שפת אמת פרי הצניעות. והחריצות יתרון התאוה. והמתון מגדול עוז. והמהירות מביאה אל החרטה:
650. Veracity is the fruit of piety; incessant labour of excessive covetousness; mature deliberation is a tower of strength; and precipitancy a source of regret.

ושאלו לאדם גדול במה הגעת אל כל הכבוד הזה ואתה מן הכושיים? ואמר בדבר אמת. והנאמנות. והמנע מן העיקש ושלא שאלתי על מה שאינו צריך לי:
651. An eminent man having been asked, how he attained his honourable position, though of Ethiopian descent, replied, By the utterance of truth, by a strict adherence to fidelity, by abstaining from oppression, and by evincing an indifference to superfluities.

ואמר החכם ראש כל מוסר השתיקה וראש השכל השפלות. ומי שהרבה בדבר נודע בו:
652. The sage concluded, Silence is the most becoming demeanour; discretion the height of humility, whilst prolixity causes unenviable notoriety.
אמר החכם מי שרוכב במהירות אינו בטוח מן המכשול:
