    כְּשֶׁבָּא לָאָדָם גַּדְלוּת, סִימָן שֶׁיָּבוֹא לוֹ צָרָה, חַס וְשָׁלוֹם, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב (משלי ט״ז:י״ח): לִפְנֵי שֶׁבֶר גָּאוֹן,

    When a person grows haughty, it is an indication that he will experience misfortune, God forbid. As it is written (Proverbs 16:18), “Before destruction, pride.”

    וְכֵן כְּשֶׁהוּא שָׁפָל, סִימָן שֶׁיָּבוֹא לְכָבוֹד גָּדוֹל, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב (שם טו): וְלִפְנֵי כָבוֹד עֲנָוָה:

    Similarly, when he is humble, it is an indication that he will experience great honor. As it is written (ibid. 15:33), “And before honor, humility.”
