It is forbidden to accept rechiluth, even if the speaker said the thing in public before many men. [For] even if he did so, it is not to be concluded [because of this] that what he says is true. But it is to be suspected [as possibly true] and inquired about if it may affect him in the future.
אָסוּר לְקַבֵּל רְכִילוּת, אֲפִלּוּ אִם הַמְסַפֵּר סִפֵּר אֶת הַדָּבָר בְּפִרְסוּם (א) לִפְנִי כַּמָּה אֲנָשִׁים, אַף עַל פִּי כֵן אֵין לְהַחְלִיט מֵחֲמַת זֶה שֶׁהַדָּבָר אֱמֶת, רַק יֵשׁ לָחוּשׁ אַחַר זֶה וְלַחֲקֹר אֶת הַדָּבָר, (ב) אִם נוֹגֵעַ לוֹ זֶה עַל לְהַבָּא.
