תָּאנָא, כְּאַיָּל תַּעֲרוֹג עַל אֲפִיקֵי מָיִם, דָּא כְּנֶסֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל. כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמֵר, (תהילים כ״ב:כ׳) אֱיָלוּתִי לְעֶזְרָתִי חוּשָׁה. תַּעֲרוֹג עַל אֲפִיקֵי מָיִם, וַדַאי לְאִשְׁתַּקְּיָא מִשַּׁקְיוּ דְּמַבּוּעֵי דְּנַחֲלָא, עַל יְדֵי דְּצַדִיק. תַּעֲרוֹג: כְּמָה דְאַתְּ אָמֵר, (שיר השירים ו) לַעֲרוּגֹת הַבּוֹשֶׂם, כֵּן נַפְשִׁי תַעֲרוֹג אֵלֶיךָ אֱלֹהִים. לְאִשְׁתַּקְּיָיא מִנָךְ, בְּעָלְמָא דֵּין וּבְעָלְמָא דְּאָתֵי.

So we are told here that the “hind”, to wit, the Community of Israel, pants for the water brooks to receive a draught from the sources of the stream at the hands of the Righteous One.

מַבּוּעֵי נַחֲלָא מַאן אִינּוּן. מַבּוּעָא חַד לְעֵילָּא, דִּכְתִּיב, (בראשית ב׳:י׳) וְנָהָר יוֹצֵא מֵעֵדֶן לְהַשְׁקוֹת אֶת הַגָּן וְגוֹ'. וּמִתַּמָּן נָגִיד וְנָפִיק, וּמַשְׁקֵי גִּנְתָּא, וְכָל אִינּוּן נַחֲלִין, נַגְדִּין וְנָפְקִין וּמִתְכַּנְּשִׁין בִּתְרֵי מַבּוּעִין, דְּאִקְרוּן נֶצַח וְהוֹד, וְאִלֵּין אִקְרוּן אֲפִיקֵי מַיִם, בְּהַהוּא דַּרְגָא דְּצַדִיק, דְּמִנֵיהּ נָגִיד וְנָפִיק וּמִשְׁתַּקְיָא גִּנְתָּא. בְּגִין כַּךְ אַיָּל וּצְבִי כַּחֲדָא מִשְׁתַּכְחֵי, (נ"א איל וצבי אקרון עטרת ויסוד) צֶדֶק וְצַדִּיק.

What are these sources? One is above, of which it is written, “And a river went forth from Eden to water the Garden”, etc., and from there it flows forth and waters the Garden and all the streams issue from it and meet again in two sources called Nezah and Hod, and these pour forth water into that grade of Zaddik which goes forth from thence and waters the Garden.
