Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · First Day, Chapter 10

‹›
  1. 1

(The following prayer is said only if a Minyan of ten males is present.)

  2. 2

He wounds and heals, He slays and revives,

  3. 3

He raises up from the pit to life eternal.

  4. 4

When a son sins, his father smites him,

  5. 5

    but then a compassionate father

  6. 6

    heals his wound.

  7. 7

A rebellious slave is put in chains,

  8. 8

but if the master desires, he breaks the chains.

  9. 9

    We are Your firstborn

  10. 10

and we have sinned against You—

  11. 11

—our souls are filled with bitter affliction.

  12. 12

    We are Your slaves,

  13. 13

    and we rebelled against You—

  14. 14

—some of us have endured plunder,

  15. 15

    some captivity, some the whip.

  16. 16

We beseech You, in Your abundant mercy,

  17. 17

    heal our overwhelming pain,

  18. 18

so that we are not completely annihilated

  19. 19

    in exile.

  20. 20

Angels of mercy!11Some authorities omit this prayer because they object to the idea of praying to angels.

  21. 21

    Bring our plea for compassion

  22. 22

before the Presence of the Lord of mercy.

  23. 23

    Angels of prayer!

  24. 24

Cause our prayers to be heard

  25. 25

    before Him Who hears prayer.

  26. 26

    Angels of weeping!

  27. 27

Cause our cries to be heard

  28. 28

before Him Who listens to cries.

  29. 29

    Angels of tears!

  30. 30

bring our tears before the King

  31. 31

    Who is appeased by tears.

  32. 32

    Intercede for us

  33. 33

    and amplify supplication and entreaty

  34. 34

    before the King, Almighty,

  35. 35

    Who is exalted and uplifted.

  36. 36

Mention before Him, cause Him to hear

  37. 37

of the Torah learning and good deeds

  38. 38

of our ancestors who repose in the dust.

  39. 39

    May He remember their love

  40. 40

and give life to their descendants

  41. 41

    שֶׁלֹּא תֹאבַד שְׁאֵרִית־יַעֲקֹב:

    so that the remnant of Jacob will not perish;

  42. 42

for the flock of the faithful shepherd

  43. 43

    הָיָה לְחֶרְפָּה,

    has become a disgrace;

  44. 44

Israel the unique nation [has become]

  45. 45

an example and a byword [of humiliation].

  46. 46

Hasten and answer us, God of our deliverance,

  47. 47

and redeem us from all harsh decrees,

  48. 48

    deliver in Your abundant mercy

  49. 49

Your righteous annointed and Your people.

  50. 50

Master in heaven, we beseech You,

  51. 51

as a captive implores his captor.

  52. 52

    All captives

  53. 53

    are ransomed with money,

  54. 54

but Your people Israel [are redeemed]

  55. 55

    through compassion and supplication.

  56. 56

Grant our petition and our request,

  57. 57

    that we not return empty-handed

  58. 58

    from before You.

  59. 59

Master in heaven, we beseech You,

  60. 60

as a slave implores his master.

  61. 61

We are oppressed and live in darkness,

  62. 62

    our souls are grieved

  63. 63

    from great affliction.

  64. 64

We don’t have the strength to appease You,

  65. 65

Master, do it for the sake of the covenant,

  66. 66

which You made with our forefathers.

  67. 67

  68. 68

    and let not Israel perish,

    Guardian of the unique nation

  72. 72

    to the Holy One.

  81. 81

You Who are appeased by pleas for mercy,

  82. 82

    are conciliated by supplications

    Our Father, our King!

be gracious to us and answer us

  88. 88

deal with us charitably and kindly

  90. 90

  91. 91

    Remember Your mercies, Adonoy,
