Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Fourth Day, Chapter 5

‹›
  1. 1

You search all things and review them,

  3. 3

    וּמֵבִין אֶל־מִפְעָלִי.

    and understand all my doings;

  4. 4

if perchance, I have dealt falsely

  5. 5

    and acted deceitfully—

  6. 6

please, do not investigate my iniquity,

  7. 7

and do not examine my misdeeds.

  8. 8

Adonoy! Hear my voice in the morning.

  9. 9

    My Creator!

  10. 10

    אֲשֶׁר בַּזֶּרֶת, תִּכֵּן מְרוֹמֵי קֶרֶת.

    With a span, He measures the heavens above;

  11. 11

for You, I prepare a crown [with my prayers]

  12. 12

offered to You in the third watch5The last watch which culminates at daybreak, the period most appropriate for prayer. [of night]

  13. 13

during which You give ear to the entreaties

  14. 14

of those who hope for Your deliverance.

  15. 15

    Send Your rebuke

  16. 16

to the violent and rebellious [nations]

  17. 17

    who speak haughtily [of themselves]

  18. 18

and say “There is none else but her.”

  19. 19

And the Place where incense was offered,

  20. 20

and the Holy of Holies and the Altar,

  21. 21

with which the Kohanim served You,

  22. 22

they [our enemies] have made a thoroughfare.

  23. 23

    May curses cling to them

  24. 24

as the liver to the lobe,

  25. 25

    and may violent wrath,

  26. 26

and every wound and sickness befall them.

  27. 27

Adonoy! Hear my voice in the morning.

  28. 28

    [Our] Rock,

  29. 29

Your Name is Almighty of Vengeance,

  30. 30

why do You appear as asleep?

  31. 31

    Year after year

  32. 32

the vine which Your right hand planted

  33. 33

    is most oppressed and afflicted,

  34. 34

    זֶה מָכַר וְזֶה קָנָה.

    it [Israel] is bought and sold;

  35. 35

Your people are nick-named with degradation

  36. 36

but in fact are not degraded.

  37. 37

    Your judgement is just,

  38. 38

for no sentence is passed without justice.

  39. 39

But take vengence for the [Torah of] faith

  40. 40

which was given from Your right hand,

  41. 41

and in which it is written: “Who can count.”6See Numbers 23:10, “Who can count the dust of Jacob.”

  42. 42

    וְעַתָּה כַּצֹּאן נִמְנָה.

    Yet now we are counted like sheep;

  43. 43

my Rock, be aroused, I beg You

  44. 44

destroy our enemy from its base,

  45. 45

    and uproot its kingdom,

  46. 46

    God, Adonoy is my strength.

  47. 47

Adonoy! Hear my voice in the morning.

  48. 48

    Mighty One,

  49. 49

Who is near to those who call Him

  50. 50

and hears [the prayers of] the needy,

  51. 51

judge the plight of the poor and needy,

  52. 52

    render judgement for the oppressed

  53. 53

    and persecuted.

  54. 54

The fate of high and the low

  55. 55

are in Your hands, Master of masters.

  56. 56

Let my sentence come from You

  57. 57

as a bright light, Almighty of faithfulness.

  58. 58

The Almighty is not like man

  59. 59

    that He should lie,

  60. 60

that He should change His word,

  61. 61

    yet You have decreed:

  62. 62

“At the end of six years

  63. 63

set free the [Hebrew] bondsman”;7See Exodus 21:2.

  64. 64

and many times six years have gone by me

  65. 65

although I have not loved my masters.8See Exodus 21. The servant could opt to remain in the service of his master if he loved him.

  66. 66

And if I was sold to a heathen,

  67. 67

and was not released after [six] years,

  68. 68

the duty of ransom falls on the kinsman,

  69. 69

and You are my Kinsman and Redeemer.

  70. 70

Adonoy! Hear my voice in the morning.

  71. 71

    Almighty! King!

  72. 72

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  73. 73

    governs with kindness

  74. 74

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  75. 75

He removes their sins one by one,

  76. 76

    increasing forgiveness to sinners,

  77. 77

    and pardon to transgressors.

  78. 78

    Acting righteously

  79. 79

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  80. 80

    not according to their wickedness

  81. 81

    does He repay them.

  82. 82

    Almighty!

  83. 83

    You instructed us to recite

  84. 84

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  85. 85

    remember unto us this day

  86. 86

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  87. 87

    as You made them known

  88. 88

to the humble Moses of old,

  89. 89

    as it is written,

  90. 90

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  91. 91

    and stood with him there,

  92. 92

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  93. 93

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  94. 94

    וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהֹוָה עַל פָּנָיו

    And Adonoy passed before him [Moses];

  95. 95

    and proclaimed:

  96. 96

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  97. 97

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  98. 98

    Slow to Anger,

  99. 99

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  100. 100

    Keeper of kindness

  101. 101

    for thousands of generations,

  102. 102

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  103. 103

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  104. 104

and Acquitter of those who repent.”

  105. 105

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  106. 106

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  107. 107

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  108. 108

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  109. 109

    “For You, my Master,

  110. 110

    are good and forgiving,

  111. 111

    and abounding in kindness

  112. 112

to all who call upon You.”
