טו. על פי א"ב:

אֱלֹהִים בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל גָּדוֹל נוֹדָעְתָּ.

God, You are known to be great in Israel,

אַתָּה יְהֹוָה אָבִינוּ אָתָּה:

You Adonoy, are our Father;

בְּכָל קָרְאֵנוּ אֵלֶיךָ קָרְבֵנוּ.

whenever we call unto You, You are near to us,

רָם וְנִשָּׂא אַתָּה בְּקִרְבֵּנוּ:

You are exalted and uplifted in our midst.

גְּמַלְתָּנוּ הַטּוֹבוֹת

You have granted us good favors

בְּחוֹבֵנוּ.

despite our liabilities [sins],

לֹא בְצִדְקוֹתֵינוּ

not because of our righteousness

וּבְיֹשֶׁר לְבָבֵנוּ:

and the uprightness of our hearts;

דּוֹדֵנוּ

You are our loved One

גַּם כִּי זָנַחְנוּ.

even though we have forsaken You.

גְּאָלֵנוּ כִּי עֲבָדִים אֲנָחְנוּ:

Redeem us, for we are slaves.

הִנְנוּ בַּעֲווֹנֵנוּ

Because of our iniquity,

עַד דַּכָּא.

we have been brought to the crushing point,

וַתִּקְּצַר נֶפֶשׁ

shrunken are the souls

לְךָ מְחַכָּה:

of those who yearn for You,

וְאַיֵּה חֲסָדֶךָ הָרִאשׁוֹנִים עִמָּנוּ.

and where is Your earlier kindness with us?

מֵעוֹלָם וְעַד עוֹלָם נֶאֱמָנוּ:

For ever and ever, they are everlasting.

זַעַף נִשָּׂא

We carry the burden of Your wrath,

וַתַּשׁ כֹּחֵנוּ.

and it has weakened our might,

יְהֹוָה אַל בְּאַפְּךָ תוֹכִיחֵנוּ:

Adonoy, do not rebuke us with Your anger,

חַלְחָלוֹת רַבּוֹת בִּלּוּ בְשָׂרֵנוּ.

terrifying panic has consumed our flesh;

נָא אַל בַּחֲמָתְךָ תְיַסְּרֵנוּ:

please, do not chastise us with Your rage.

טֹרַח הַצָּרוֹת אֵין לְהִסָּפֵר.

Our suffering from distress is indescribable,

אַיֵּה שׁוֹקֵל וְאַיֵּה סוֹפֵר:

who can weigh them and who can count them?

יָדַעְנוּ רִשְׁעֵנוּ כִּי פָשָׁעְנוּ.

We know our wickedness, that we have sinned,

כִּי אֱמֶת עָשִׂיתָ

for You have acted truthfully

וַאֲנַחְנוּ הִרְשָׁעְנוּ:

and we have acted wickedly.

כַּעַס וְחָרוֹן מֶנּוּ יֶחְדָּל.

May [Your] anger and wrath cease from us,

כִּי קָטוֹן יַעֲקֹב וָדָל:

for [the nation of] Jacob is small and frail,

לַחַץ יוּסַר

let us be relieved from oppression,

וְעֹל מֶנּוּ יְחֻבָּל.

and let the yoke of tyranny be crushed,

כִּי כָשַׁל כֹּחַ הַסַּבָּל:

for our strength to endure is weakened.

מְנָת מִדָּתֵנוּ

Do not use the measure [of our evil ways

לֹא תִגְבֶּה.

as a yardstick] to exact punishment from us,

כִּי נִשְׁאַרְנוּ מְעַט מֵהַרְבֶּה:

for we remain but a few from many;

נַחֵם עַל הָרָעָה לְאֻמָּתֶךָ.

rescind the evil intended for Your people,

מַטֶּה כְּלַפֵּי חֶסֶד

for tipping the scale towards kindness

אֻמָּנוּתֶךָ:

is Your attribute.

סְלָחָה

Forgive us

אִם־עֲווֹנֵינוּ עָנוּ בָנוּ.

even if our sins testify against us,

עָזְרֵנוּ כִּי עָלֶיךָ נִשְׁעָנְנוּ:

help us; for on You, we depend;

עָרְפֵּנוּ כֹף לְךָ לְהִשְׁתַּעְבֵּד.

bend our necks to serve You,

בְּאַהֲבָה וּבְיִרְאָה

with love and reverence

אוֹתְךָ לַעֲבֹד וּלְכַבֵּד:

may we serve and honor You.

פּוֹקְדֶיךָ

Those who remember You

קִדְּשׁוּ צוֹמוֹת לִקְבֹּעַ.

have prepared and set aside days of fasting,

דַּעְתָּם קְצָרָה

their perception has become so shrunken—

צָרְכָם לִתְבֹּעַ:

they are unable to ask for their needs;

צְקוֹן לַחֲשָׁם

may the outpourings of their prayers

אֵלֶיךָ תָּבוֹא.

come before You,

חַתֵּל לְאִישׁ אִישׁ

bind up each one’s

נִגְעוֹ וּמַכְאוֹבוֹ:

wounds and pains.

קוֹל יַעֲקֹב נוֹהֵם

The voice of Jacob cries out

מִתְּהוֹמוֹתֶיךָ.

from the depths of Your exile,

תִּשְׁמַע הַשָּׁמַיִם

may it be heard in the heavens,

מְכוֹן שִׁבְתֶּךָ:

the place of Your habitation;

רוֹדֶה רוֹדֵף בְּאַף תְּכַלֶּה.

destroy with Your anger, their pursuers.

שְׁנַת שִׁלּוּמִים

The year of punishment

לְרִיב צִיּוֹן

for those who strive against Zion,

תְּגַלֶּה:

reveal [to us soon].

שַׁרְתָּ וְרַדְתָּ

You saw and came down—

מִנֹּעַר קְנוֹתֵנוּ.

You acquired us in our youth,

וְאַל תַּשְׁלִיכֵנוּ לְעֵת זִקְנָתֵנוּ:

do not cast us off in our old age;

תָּעִינוּ לִשְׂמֹאל

we have gone astray leftward [the way of sin]

וִימִינְךָ תְּקָרְבֵנוּ.

let Your right hand bring us near,

כִּכְלוֹת כֹּחֵנוּ אַל תַּעַזְבֵנוּ:

when our strength fails, do not forsake us.

תַּבִּיט וְתָצִיץ

Look down and gaze [at our trouble]

וְתַשְׁגִּיחַ לִרְחוּמֶיךָ.

and look after Your loved ones,

תִּתְאַזָּר בַּחֲנִינוֹתֶךָ

be girded with Your graciousness

תִּתְלַבֵּשׁ בְּצִדְקוֹתֶיךָ.

and be garbed with Your righteousness,

תִּתְכַּסֶּה בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ

be covered with Your compassion,

וְתִתְעַטֵּף בַּחֲסִידוּתֶךָ.

and be enwrapped with Your kindliness,

וְתָבֹא לְפָנֶיךָ

and let there appear before You

מִדַּת־טוּבְךָ וְעַנְוְתָנוּתֶךָ:

the attributes of Your goodness and humility.

אֵל מֶֽלֶךְ.

Almighty! King!

יוֹשֵׁב עַל כִּסֵּא רַחֲמִים.

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

מִתְנַהֵג בַּחֲסִידוּת.

governs with kindness

מוֹחֵל עֲו‍ֹנוֹת עַמּוֹ.

forgives the iniquities of His people.

מַעֲבִיר רִאשׁוֹן רִאשׁוֹן.

He removes their sins one by one,

מַרְבֶּה מְחִילָה לְחַטָּאִים

increasing forgiveness to sinners,

וּסְלִיחָה לְפוֹשְׁעִים.

and pardon to transgressors.

עוֹשֶׂה צְדָקוֹת

Acting righteously

עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

with all who are of flesh and spirit;

לֹא כְרָעָתָם

not according to their wickedness

תִּגְמוֹל:

does He repay them.

אֵל

Almighty!

הוֹרֵיתָ לָנוּ לוֹמַר

You instructed us to recite

שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

the thirteen Divine attributes;

וּזְכָר לָֽנוּ הַיּוֹם

remember unto us this day

בְּרִית שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

כְּמוֹ שֶׁהוֹדַֽעְתָּ

as You made them known

לֶעָנָו מִקֶּֽדֶם.

to the humble Moses of old,

כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב

as it is written,

וַיֵּרֶד יְהֹוָה בֶּֽעָנָן

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

וַיִּתְיַצֵּב עִמּוֹ שָׁם

and stood with him there,

וַיִּקְרָא בְשֵׁם יְהֹוָה:

and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

קהל וחזן:

Congregation and Chazzan:

וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהֹוָה עַל פָּנָיו

And Adonoy passed before him [Moses];

וַיִּקְרָא:

and proclaimed:

יְהֹוָה יְהֹוָה

Adonoy, Adonoy,

אֵל רַחוּם וְחַנּוּן

Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

אֶֽרֶךְ אַפַּֽיִם

Slow to Anger,

וְרַב חֶֽסֶד וֶֽאֱמֶת:

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

נֹצֵר חֶֽסֶד

Keeper of kindness

לָאֲלָפִים

for thousands of generations,

נֹשֵׂא עָו‍ֹן וָפֶֽשַׁע

Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

וְחַטָּאָה

and sin;

וְנַקֵּה:

and Acquitter of those who repent.”

וְסָלַחְתָּ לַעֲו‍ֹנֵֽנוּ וּלְחַטָּאתֵֽנוּ

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

וּנְחַלְתָּֽנוּ:

and take us for Your inheritance.”

סְלַח לָֽנוּ אָבִֽינוּ כִּי חָטָֽאנוּ.

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

מְחַל לָֽנוּ מַלְכֵּֽנוּ כִּי פָשָֽׁעְנוּ:

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

כִּי אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי

“For You, my Master,

טוֹב וְסַלָּח

are good and forgiving,

וְרַב חֶֽסֶד

and abounding in kindness

לְכָל קֹרְאֶֽיךָ:

to all who call upon You.”
