‹›
  1. 1

  2. 2

    יַשְׁמִיעֵנוּ סָלַחְתִּי,

    Let us hear “I have pardoned”;

  3. 3

    You Who dwells

  4. 4

    בְּסֵתֶר עֶלְיוֹן.

    in the shelter of the Most High;

  5. 5

with Your right hand of deliverance,

  6. 6

deliver a people poor and needy.

  7. 7

    When we cry to You,

  8. 8

    answer us with awesome righteousness,

  9. 9

    Adonoy, be our Helper!

  10. 10

    I have placed my reliance

  11. 11

upon Him Who is mighty and uplifted,

  12. 12

before Him Who drew me out of the womb,

  13. 13

    I pour our my prayer,

  14. 14

    אוּלַי פָנַי יִשָּׂא.

    perhaps He will lift up my face;

  15. 15

I have set the “Thirteen Attributes” [in my prayer]

  16. 16

according to the order which He ordained,

  17. 17

with these Your precious one [Israel]

  18. 18

will break down the wall [separating us],

  19. 19

    remember us still,

  20. 20

    Adonoy, be our Helper!

  21. 21

When the wheel of Satan comes like a wave1When we are overwhelmed with misfortune.

  22. 22

to change our way of thinking,2Misfortune may cause one to change his beliefs.

  23. 23

Your beloved dove [Israel] turns to You, crying:

  24. 24

    “Look [and see our troubles;]”

  25. 25

with a yearning soul she approaches You,

  26. 26

    regretting her transgressions,

  27. 27

may Your right hand be stretched forth below,

  28. 28

    as we watch anxiously.

  29. 29

    Adonoy, be our Helper.

  30. 30

To those who gather to beseech Your kindness,

  31. 31

say to them “Here I am.”

  32. 32

Restrain the dominion of our evil inclination,

  33. 33

set in us as though nailed down,

  34. 34

weighing heavily on our necks like a beam,

  35. 35

placed there to hold us in his power.

  36. 36

    Who is strong enough

  37. 37

to throw off the stranger [Satan],

  38. 38

or fierce enough to remove him?

  39. 39

    Adonoy, be our Helper!

  40. 40

Open the door for the lily [Israel],

  41. 41

    O God above,

  42. 42

    attend to my meditation

  43. 43

and let me enter the closed gates.

  44. 44

Have compassion on us, anticipate our needs,

  45. 45

    צֳרִי וּמָזוֹר הַתְעַל.

    heal our wounds with balm;

  46. 46

cleanse my tongue that I may justify myself,

  47. 47

let my iniquity be sought for in vain.

  48. 48

    Adonoy, be our Helper!

  49. 49

May the Perfect One grant the silent dove

  50. 50

    a goodly portion,

  51. 51

it will be a sign of righteousness—

  52. 52

that she has justified herself in fear of You

  53. 53

    לְהוֹשִׁיעָה.

    —when You deliver her [from exile];

  54. 54

    she cries to You, Master

  55. 55

that the time of her liberation is now,

  56. 56

release the sheath from its casing3To reveal Your forgiveness of our sins.

  57. 57

let judgement go forth as a light.

  58. 58

    Adonoy, be our Helper!

  59. 59

May I succeed in my mission,4This paragraph applies to the Chazzan.

  60. 60

to bring back word to those who sent me,5That their prayers were accepted.

  61. 61

    You established a strong statute

  62. 62

that the thirteen Attributes as stated,

  63. 63

    מַחֲזִיקָם וְלֹא רֵיקָם,

    will strengthen them and not be said in vain;

  64. 64

I have been sent to utter them with might,

  65. 65

and do this You Who bears iniquity,

  66. 66

return now to have compassion upon us.

  67. 67

    Adonoy, be our Helper!

  68. 68

    Almighty! King!

  69. 69

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  70. 70

    governs with kindness

  71. 71

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  72. 72

He removes their sins one by one,

  73. 73

    increasing forgiveness to sinners,

  74. 74

    and pardon to transgressors.

  75. 75

    Acting righteously

  76. 76

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  77. 77

    not according to their wickedness

  78. 78

    does He repay them.

  79. 79

    Almighty!

  80. 80

    You instructed us to recite

  81. 81

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  82. 82

    remember unto us this day

  83. 83

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  84. 84

    as You made them known

  85. 85

to the humble Moses of old,

  86. 86

    as it is written,

  87. 87

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  88. 88

    and stood with him there,

  89. 89

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  90. 90

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  91. 91

    וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהֹוָה עַל פָּנָיו

    And Adonoy passed before him [Moses];

  92. 92

    and proclaimed:

  93. 93

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  94. 94

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  95. 95

    Slow to Anger,

  96. 96

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  97. 97

    Keeper of kindness

  98. 98

    for thousands of generations,

  99. 99

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  100. 100

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  101. 101

and Acquitter of those who repent.”

  102. 102

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  103. 103

and take us for Your inheritance.”

    “For You, my Master,

  107. 107

    are good and forgiving,

  108. 108

    and abounding in kindness

  109. 109
