  2. 2

Our God and God of our fathers!

  3. 3

The glory of the honored [Israel] has ceased,

  4. 4

    the eloquent spokesman is silenced.

  5. 5

    She dwells in depression,

  6. 6

    weak and feeble is she

  7. 7

who was once a proud ruler.

  8. 8

She who was protected like a delicate rose,

  9. 9

    נוּגָה נְסוּגָה אֲחוֹרַנִּית.

    sits in mourning, turned backwards;

  10. 10

    diminished and despondent

  11. 11

are her Levites and Aharonites [Priests],

  12. 12

    and villagers.

  13. 13

The praiseworthy one has been vilified

  14. 14

    profaned as an unfaithful wife,

  15. 15

cast aside like a niddah,2A woman in menstruation is prohibited from being intimate with her husband.

  16. 16

impure as a metzorah.3A spiritual disease, often mistakenly interpreted as leprosy.

  17. 17

Her crown and glory are profaned,

  18. 18

    her strongholds cut off,

  19. 19

    she is again dispersed

  20. 20

    in an uncultivated land.

  21. 21

    Your flock—amid turmoil and anger—

  22. 22

has been devoured by the unclean,

  23. 23

    he gnashes his teeth,

  24. 24

    he runs to swallow them—

  25. 25

[to satisfy his] hunger and thirst.

  26. 26

The powers of Your might [Oh God]—

  27. 27

where and how will it become known?

  28. 28

[Punish those] who offer incense to idols

  29. 29

    time and time again.

  30. 30

The long rule of the rebellious—

  31. 31

why have You made it permanent?

  32. 32

The degenerate rules over the prince,

  33. 33

the evil one rules over the nobleman.

  34. 34

    His hope is on You,

  35. 35

    נִקְרָא בְּשִׁמְךָ יֻמְלַט.

    save him who is called by Your Name;

  36. 36

    be a help to him,

  37. 37

    a stronghold and a refuge.

  38. 38

Turn to the prayer of the supplicant,

  39. 39

    וְלוֹ הֵעָתֵר.

    and accept his plea;

  40. 40

overlook the stench of his sins,

  41. 41

    release the condemned,

  44. 44

    uplift and restore their name,

  45. 45

let them remain for a life of goodness.

  46. 46

    Smite those who torture us,

  47. 47

strike them, excise them, crush them,

  48. 48

    arouse Your vengeance,

  49. 49

    תָּרִיעַ תַּצְרִיחַ כְּגִבּוֹר.

    sound the war-cry, shout like a warrior;

  50. 50

the lost ones, the remote ones—

  51. 51

yearn for them, collect them, assemble them,

  52. 52

gather them, give them rest, uplift them,

  53. 53

take them up from the pit.

  54. 54

    יְשׁוּעָה תִקְרָא

    הָמֵךְ רָמֵי הַקּוֹמוֹת.

    demote their arrogant leaders;

  58. 58

    those who trust in You—

  59. 59

return them to Your Resting Place [Jerusalem]

  60. 60

according to Your promise of consolation,

  61. 61

[then] will the tyrants who rule them

  62. 62

be clothed in disgrace and humiliation.

  63. 63

    Almighty God, rescue Your servants,

  64. 64

    make Your loved ones successful,

  65. 65

quickly bring near the time [of deliverance],

  66. 66

    פְּדוּתָם תִּשְׁלַח.

    send them [Your] redemption;

  67. 67

    pardon us our Father

  68. 68

    and forgive our sins,

  69. 69

for You Adonoy are good and forgiving.

  70. 70

    Almighty! King!

  71. 71

Who sits on the throne of mercy,

  72. 72

    governs with kindness

  73. 73

forgives the iniquities of His people.

  74. 74

    Acting righteously

  78. 78

    עִם כָּל בָּשָׂר וָרֽוּחַ.

    with all who are of flesh and spirit;

  79. 79

    not according to their wickedness

  80. 80

    does He repay them.

  81. 81

    Almighty!

  82. 82

    You instructed us to recite

  83. 83

    שְׁלשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה.

    the thirteen Divine attributes;

  84. 84

    remember unto us this day

  85. 85

the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,

  86. 86

    as You made them known

  87. 87

to the humble Moses of old,

  88. 88

    as it is written,

  89. 89

“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,

  90. 90

    and stood with him there,

  91. 91

    and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.

  92. 92

    Congregation and Chazzan:

  93. 93

    וַיַּֽעֲבֹר יְהֹוָה עַל פָּנָיו

    And Adonoy passed before him [Moses];

  94. 94

    and proclaimed:

  95. 95

    Adonoy, Adonoy,

  96. 96

    Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,

  97. 97

    Slow to Anger,

  98. 98

and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.

  99. 99

    Keeper of kindness

  100. 100

    for thousands of generations,

  101. 101

    Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,

  102. 102

    וְחַטָּאָה

    and sin;

  103. 103

and Acquitter of those who repent.”

  104. 104

“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,

  105. 105

and take us for Your inheritance.”

  106. 106

Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

  107. 107

forgive us our King, for we have transgressed.

  108. 108

    “For You, my Master,

  109. 109

    are good and forgiving,

  110. 110

    and abounding in kindness

  111. 111

to all who call upon You.”
