Selichot Nusach Lita Linear · Seventh Day, Chapter 5
1
If our iniquities testify against us,
3
we come before You [with remorse]
4
and we rely on Your [merciful] Name;
5
as a father has mercy on his children,
6
so too have mercy on us,
7
as one who is comforted by his mother,
8
may we be comforted by You.
9
Do not rebuke us with Your anger,
10
lest we be [completely] diminished.
11
You Adonoy are good and forgiving,
12
but the evil inclination has corrupted us,
13
—Your children—despite their transgression
14
You will not cast them off;
15
our devastated hearts are gripped by sin.4The stench of our sin.
16
Do not rebuke us with Your anger,
17
lest we be [completely] diminished.
18
You Who are great in kindness,
19
Who preserves merit
20
for thousands of generations,
21
deal with us with Your mercy and kindness,
22
and not with the opposite attributes.
23
Your promise5Of benevolence. was not empty or misleading,
24
therefore we yearn for Your kindness
25
as those who are exhausted and faint.
26
Do not rebuke us with Your anger,
27
lest we be [completely] diminished.
28
With rapt attention [Your] messenger6Moses. listened
29
[to Your words that he might know] if even those who desecrate Your Torah
30
might still be saved;
31
You strengthened him
32
[by] teaching him Your way of amnesty,
33
with that same attribute, acquit us.
34
Do not rebuke us with Your anger,
35
lest we be [completely] diminished.
36
Remembering forgotten things—
37
this is Your praise,
38
You diminish [Your] anger, [causing it to last]
39
no longer than a spoken word;
40
[therefore] articulate life [for us]
41
in Your judgement.
42
Grant us undeserved grace
43
as You search our hearts.
44
Do not rebuke us with Your anger,
45
lest we be [completely] diminished.
46
Into the mud amidst the stormy sea
47
cause our sins to sink—
48
the unintentional, the intentional,
49
the hidden ones and the revealed;
50
[You] know that our [evil] inclination
51
has caused us to do these deeds,
52
lift Your hand to do good for us.
53
Do not rebuke us with Your anger,
54
lest we be [completely] diminished.
55
You search the innards of man
56
and the paths of his heart, [to know]
57
does he walk in the proper and upright path
58
or does he follow the whim of his heart?
59
Is his heart humble or is he insulting?
60
Let the bitterness of sin
61
be sweetened [with repentance],
62
that he not return as a “dog to his vomit.”7An idiomatic expression used by the Sages to describe one who returns to his previous sin.
63
Do not rebuke us with Your anger,
64
lest we be [completely] diminished.
65
You save even those
66
whose judgements indicate a death penalty,
67
we cry out to You with yearning:
68
lighten and remove the burden of iniquity
69
lest it becomes part of us;
70
may our sins be forgiven and forgotten
71
when the Accuser comes to indict us.
72
Do not rebuke us with Your anger,
73
lest we be [completely] diminished.
74
[Although] the record of our guilt
75
has been signed by witnesses,
76
declare his indictment a forgery
77

78
our sins are as visible as a stain,
79
through Your mercy, let them be removed.
80
Do not rebuke us with Your anger,

Almighty!
You instructed us to recite
the thirteen Divine attributes;
remember unto us this day
the covenant of thirteen Divine attributes,
as You made them known
to the humble Moses of old,
as it is written,
“And Adonoy descended in the cloud,
and stood with him there,
and proclaimed the Name, Adonoy.
Congregation and Chazzan:
And Adonoy passed before him [Moses];
and proclaimed:
Adonoy, Adonoy,
Almighty, Merciful, Gracious,
Slow to Anger,
and Abundant in Kindness, and Truth.
Keeper of kindness
for thousands of generations,
Endurer of iniquity, and transgression,
and sin;
and Acquitter of those who repent.”
“And pardon our iniquity and our sin,
and take us for Your inheritance.”
Pardon us our Father, for we have sinned,

“For You, my Master,

and abounding in kindness
to all who call upon You.”
