    The Ark is opened:

  3. 3

    שְׁמַע קוֹלֵֽנוּ יְהֹוָה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ

    Hear our voice, Adonoy, our God;

  4. 4

    spare us and have compassion on us,

  5. 5

    and accept

  6. 6

    our prayers mercifully and willingly.

  7. 7

    Lead us back to You, Adonoy

  8. 8

    וְנָשֽׁוּבָה

    and we shall find the way back;

  9. 9

    renew our days as of old.

  10. 10

    Cast us not away from Your Presence,

  11. 11

    and Your holy spirit take not from us.

  12. 12

    Do not cast us off in time of old age,

  13. 13

    when our strength fails, do not forsake us.

  14. 14

    Forsake us not, Adonoy, our God

  15. 15

    be not far removed from us.

  16. 16

    Give us a sign of Your goodness

  17. 17

    וְיִרְאוּ שׂוֹנְאֵֽינוּ וְיֵבֽשׁוּ

    that our enemies may see it and be ashamed;

  18. 18

    for You, Adonoy, have helped us

  19. 19

    and comforted us.

  20. 20

    Give ear to our words, Adonoy!

  21. 21

    Consider our meditations.

  22. 22

    May there be gracious acceptance

  23. 23

    for the words of our mouth,

  24. 24

    and the meditation of our heart,

  25. 25

    before You,

  26. 26

    Adonoy, our Rock, and our Redeemer.

  27. 27

    For to You Adonoy, we hope

  28. 28

    You will answer us Adonoy, our God.

  29. 29

    Our God and God of our fathers,

  30. 30

    let our prayer come before you

  31. 31

    and do not ignore our supplication.

  32. 32

    For we are not so brazen-faced

  33. 33

    and stiff-necked

  34. 34

    to say to you,

  35. 35

    Adonoy, our God, and God of our fathers,

  36. 36

    “We are righteous and have not sinned.”

  37. 37

    But, indeed, we and our fathers have sinned.

  38. 38

    אָשַֽׁמְנוּ.

    We have trespassed [against God and man, and we are devastated by our guilt];

  39. 39

    בָּגַֽדְנוּ.

    We have betrayed [God and man, we have been ungrateful for the good done to us];

  40. 40

    גָּזַֽלְנוּ. דִּבַּֽרְנוּ דֹּֽפִי.

    We have stolen; We have slandered;

  41. 41

    הֶעֱוִֽינוּ.

    We have caused others to sin;

  42. 42

    וְהִרְשַֽׁעְנוּ.

    We have caused others to commit sins for which they are called רֽשָׁעִים, wicked;

  43. 43

    זַֽדְנוּ.

    We have sinned with malicious intent;

  44. 44

    We have forcibly taken other’s possessions

  45. 45

    We have added falsehood upon falsehood; We have joined with evil individuals or groups.

  46. 46

    יָעַֽצְנוּ רָע.

    We have given harmful advice;

  47. 47

    כִּזַּֽבְנוּ. לַֽצְנוּ.

    We have deceived; We have mocked;

  48. 48

    מָרַֽדְנוּ.

    We have rebelled against God and His Torah;

  49. 49

    נִאַֽצְנוּ.

    We have caused God to be angry with us;

  50. 50

    סָרַֽרְנוּ.

    We have turned away from God’s Torah;

  51. 51

    עָוִֽינוּ.

    We have sinned deliberately;

  52. 52

    פָּשַֽׁעְנוּ.

    We have been negligent in our performance of the commandments;

  53. 53

    צָרַֽרְנוּ.

    We have caused our friends grief;

  54. 54

    We have been stiff-necked, refusing to admit that the cause of our suffering is our own sins.

  55. 55

    We have committed sins for which we are called רָשָׁע, [raising a hand to hit someone].

  56. 56

    שִׁחַֽתְנוּ.

    We have committed sins which are the result of moral corruption;

  57. 57

    תִּעַֽבְנוּ.

    We have committed sins which the Torah refers to as abominations;

  58. 58

    תָּעִֽינוּ.

    We have gone astray;

  59. 59

    We have led others astray.

  60. 60

    We have turned away

  61. 61

    from Your commandments

  62. 62

    and from Your good laws,

  63. 63

    and we have gained nothing from it.

  64. 64

    And You are the Righteous One

  65. 65

    עַל כָּל הַבָּא עָלֵֽינוּ.

    in all [punishment] that has come upon us;

  66. 66

    for You have acted truthfully

  67. 67

    and we have acted wickedly.

  68. 68

    We have trespassed

  69. 69

    more than any other people,

  70. 70

    we are more ashamed

  71. 71

    מִכָּל־דּוֹר.

    than any other generation;

  72. 72

    happiness has departed from us,

  73. 73

    דָּוֶה לִבֵּנוּ בַּחֲטָאֵינוּ.

    our hearts are miserable with our sins;

  74. 74

    [the place of] our desire has been devastated,10These are all references to the Holy Temple.

  75. 75

    [the place of] our glory has been humiliated,10These are all references to the Holy Temple.

  76. 76

    the abode of our Holy Temple

  77. 77

    חָרַב בַּעֲוֹנֵינוּ.

    has been destroyed because of our iniquities;

  78. 78

    our Palace has become a desolation,10These are all references to the Holy Temple.

  79. 79

    our beautiful land belongs to strangers,

  80. 80

    our strength [wealth] to foreigners.

  81. 81

    Still, we have not repented our errors,

  82. 82

    so how can we be so insolent

  83. 83

    and obstinate

  84. 84

    as to say before You,

  85. 85

    “Adonoy, our God, and God of our fathers,

  86. 86

    we are righteous and have not sinned.”

  87. 87

    But indeed we and our fathers have sinned:

  88. 88

    אָשַֽׁמְנוּ.

    We have trespassed [against God and man, and we are devastated by our guilt];

  89. 89

    בָּגַֽדְנוּ.

    We have betrayed [God and man, we have been ungrateful for the good done to us];

  90. 90

    גָּזַֽלְנוּ. דִּבַּֽרְנוּ דֹּֽפִי.

    We have stolen; We have slandered;

  91. 91

    הֶעֱוִֽינוּ.

    We have caused others to sin;

  92. 92

    וְהִרְשַֽׁעְנוּ.

    We have caused others to commit sins for which they are called רֽשָׁעִים, wicked;

  93. 93

    זַֽדְנוּ.

    We have sinned with malicious intent;

  94. 94

    We have forcibly taken other’s possessions

  95. 95

    We have added falsehood upon falsehood; We have joined with evil individuals or groups.

  96. 96

    יָעַֽצְנוּ רָע.

    We have given harmful advice;

  97. 97

    כִּזַּֽבְנוּ. לַֽצְנוּ.

    We have deceived; We have mocked;

  98. 98

    מָרַֽדְנוּ.

    We have rebelled against God and His Torah;

  99. 99

    נִאַֽצְנוּ.

    We have caused God to be angry with us;

  100. 100

    סָרַֽרְנוּ.

    We have turned away from God’s Torah;

  101. 101

    עָוִֽינוּ.

    We have sinned deliberately;

  102. 102

    We have gone astray;

  109. 109

    We have led others astray.

  110. 110

    We have turned away

  111. 111

    from Your commandments

  112. 112

    and from Your good laws,

  113. 113

    and we have gained nothing from it.

  114. 114

    And You are the Righteous One

  115. 115

    עַל כָּל הַבָּא עָלֵֽינוּ.

    in all [punishment] that has come upon us;

  116. 116

    for You have acted truthfully

  117. 117

    and we have acted wickedly.

  118. 118

    Before our eyes, our toil has been exploited,

  119. 119

    torn and stripped from us.

  120. 120

    They have their yoke upon us,

  121. 121

    we bear it on our shoulders.

  122. 122

    Slaves rule over us,

  123. 123

    there is none to free us from their hands.

  124. 124

    Many troubles have encompassed us,

  125. 125

    we called out to You Adonoy, our God,

  126. 126

    but You remained distant from us

  127. 127

    because of our iniquities.

  128. 128

    We turned away from You,

  129. 129

    we have gone astray and are lost.

  130. 130

    Still, we have not repented our errors,

    and we have acted wickedly.

  167. 167

    הִרְשַֽׁעְנוּ וּפָשַֽׁעְנוּ

    We have acted wickedly and have transgressed;

  168. 168

    we have therefore not been delivered.

  169. 169

    Grant that our hearts [be inspired to]

  170. 170

    abandon the path of wickedness,

  171. 171

    וְחִישׁ לָֽנוּ יֶֽשַׁע,

    and hasten our deliverance;

  172. 172

    as is written by the hand of Your prophet,

  173. 173

    “Let the wicked man abandon his ways,

  174. 174

    וְאִישׁ אָֽוֶן מַחְשְׁבוֹתָיו

    and the man of iniquity his thoughts;

  175. 175

    and let him return unto Adonoy,

  176. 176

    and He will have compassion on him,

  177. 177

    and unto our God

  178. 178

    for He pardons abundantly.”

  179. 179

    Your righteous annointed [King David]

  180. 180

    declared before You,

  181. 181

    Errors—who can comprehend?

  182. 182

    From hidden [faults], cleanse me.”

  183. 183

    Cleanse us, Adonoy, our God,

  184. 184

    from all our transgressions,

  185. 185

    and purify us from all our defilement.

  186. 186

    Sprinkle clean waters on us

  187. 187

    and cleanse us,

  188. 188

    as it is written by the hand of Your prophet,

  189. 189

    “And I will sprinkle clean water upon you,

  190. 190

    וּטְהַרְתֶּם

    and you will be clean;

  191. 191

    from all your defilements,

  192. 192

    and from all your idols,

  193. 193

    I will cleanse You.”

  194. 194

    Micah, Your servant, said before You,

  195. 195

    “Who is an Almighty [God] like You?

  196. 196

    Who bears iniquity and overlooks transgression

  197. 197

    לִשְׁאֵרִית נַחֲלָתוֹ

    of the remnant of His inheritance;

  198. 198

    Who does not retain His anger forever,

  199. 199

    for He delights in kindliness.

  200. 200

    He will again have compassion on us,

  201. 201

    He will subdue our inquities,

  202. 202

    and cast into the depths of the sea,

  203. 203

    all their sins.

  204. 204

    And all the sins of Your people

  205. 205

    the House of Israel,

  206. 206

    You will cast into a place

  207. 207

    where they will never be remembered

  208. 208

    or counted

  209. 209

    and never recalled to mind.

  210. 210

    You will grant truth to Jacob,

  211. 211

    kindliness to Abraham,

  212. 212

    as You have sworn to our fathers

  213. 213

    from the days of old.”

  214. 214

    Daniel, man of [Your] delight,

  215. 215

    cried to you,

  216. 216

    הַטֵּה אֱלֹהַי אָזְנְךָ וּשְׁמָע

    “Incline Your ear, my God and hear;

  217. 217

    open Your eyes and behold our desolate places

  218. 218

    and the city which is called by Your Name,

  219. 219

    for it is not on account of our righteousness

  220. 220

    that we let fall

  221. 221

    our supplications before You,

  222. 222

    but because of Your great mercy.

  223. 223

    My Master, hear! my Master, forgive!

  224. 224

    My Master, listen and take action,

  225. 225

    do not delay!

  226. 226

    For Your sake, my God,

  227. 227

    for Your Name is proclaimed

  228. 228

    over Your city and Your people.”

  229. 229

    Ezra, the Scribe, said before You,

  230. 230

    “My God, I am [so] ashamed, and disgraced,

  231. 231

    that I cannot lift my face to You, my God,

  232. 232

    for our iniquities have risen over our heads,

  233. 233

    and our guilt has grown to the heavens.”

  234. 234

    “And You are a God of pardon,

  235. 235

    Gracious, Merciful, Slow to Anger,

  236. 236

    וְרַב חֶֽסֶד

    and Abundant in Kindness;

  237. 237

    and [therefore] You did not forsake them.”

  238. 238

    Do not forsake us, our Father,

  239. 239

    do not cast us off, our Creator,

  240. 240

    do not abandon us, our Maker,

  241. 241

    do not consume us

  242. 242

    on account of our sins.

  243. 243

    Fulfill for us, Adonoy, our God,

  244. 244

    the word, You promised

  245. 245

    by the hand of Jeremiah, Your seer

  246. 246

    as it is said,

  247. 247

    “In those days and at that time,

  248. 248

    says Adonoy,

  249. 249

    the iniquity of Israel will be sought,

  250. 250

    and there will be none [found],

  251. 251

    and the sins of Judah [will be sought]

  252. 252

    וְלֹא תִמְּצָאֶֽינָה.

    but they shall not be found;

  253. 253

    for I will pardon

  254. 254

    those whom I leave as a remnant.”

  255. 255

    Your people and Your inheritance

  256. 256

    hunger for Your goodness,

  257. 257

    thirst for Your kindness,

  258. 258

    long for Your deliverance.

  259. 259

    Let them realize and know

  260. 260

    that unto Adonoy, our God,

  261. 261

    belongs compassion and pardon.
