On this basis they taught: If a person has heard (sham`a) only a little [Torah], they enable him to hear (mashmi`in lo) much. If a person has heard words of [written] Torah they enable him to hear [the oral] teachings of scribes.
“To preserve and to enact all of this commandment” (Dt.15:5)— may the simplest commandment be as dear to you as the most arduous commandment.320Cf. M. Avot 2:1. See also Pisqa’ 79.1 and note thereto.
