סיבת היבשות והחשכות בדורנו נז. ומכאן תבין את היבשות והחשכות שמצאונו בדורנו זה, שלא נשמע כמוהן בכל הדורות שקדמו לנו. שהוא משום שאפילו העובדי ה' שמטו ידיהם מהעסק בסודות התורה. וכבר המשיל הרמב"ם11עיין מורה נבוכים ח"ג פי"א, וע"ע חובות הלבבות שער היחוד פ"ב. ז"ל משל אמיתי על זה ואמר, שאם שורה של אלף אנשים סומים הולכים בדרך, ויש להם על כל פנים פיקח אחד בראשם – הרי הם בטוחים כולם שילכו בדרך הישר ולא יפלו בפחים ומכמורות, להיותם נמשכים אחר הפיקח שבראשם. אבל אם חסר להם אותו האחד, בלי ספק שיכשלו בכל דבר המוטל בדרך ויפלו כולם לבור שחת. כן הדבר שלפנינו, אם היו על כל פנים עובדי השי"ת עוסקים בפנימיות התורה, והמשיכו אור שלם מא"ס ב"ה, הרי כל בני הדור היו נמשכים אחריהם וכולם היו בטוחים בדרכם שלא יכשלו. ואם גם עובדי השי"ת סלקו את עצמם מחכמה זו, אין פלא שכל הדור נכשל בגללם. ומגודל צערי לא אוכל להאריך בזה.

If there are one thousand blind people walking on a path with one sighted person leading them, then they are sure to remain on the proper path, and they will not trip over obstacles, as the sighted person will lead them. But if there is no sighted person, they will certainly trip over anything in their path and fall into a dangerous pit. The same is true in this matter. If those who serve God would be involved at all in the inner meaning of Torah, and if they would draw down pure light from the Ein Sof, then the rest of the generation could follow them and continue on the path confidently. But if even those who serve God have abandoned this wisdom, it is not surprising that the rest of the generation fails because of them. This is so painful that I cannot say more about it.
